Reading module is a challenging module in IELTS for many. When the Academic reading passages are lengthy and based on scientific topics involving complex vocabulary, General Training reading passages are simple to understand but questions are quite confusing. In order to get high band score in IELTS Reading section and to help you overcoming the hurdles you face while attempting reading passages, below are some of the reading tips given by an expert IELTS mentor. Let us learn the important and useful tips on reading module:
1. Keep on Reading to Improve Grasping Power
If you have the habit of reading a number of books or online materials, it will definitely help you a lot in the reading test. If you don’t, you can develop this habit by reading textbooks, magazines, newspapers and articles online. This will help you in grasping the written content in less time and also, you will improve your concentration. For half an hour or so, try reading text on a daily basis as part of your exam preparation.
2. Prepare a Reading Strategy
For your success in exam, it is extremely important that you prepare a reading strategy and implement the same in the exam effectively. There can be a number of reading strategies from which you can adopt the one which works best for you. For example, if you think solving the 3rd section first helps you gain confidence, instead of doing it at last, use this strategy as per your comfort level.
3. Practice Mock Tests
Solve a number of mock tests from Cambridge IELTS books, IELTS websites or other materials shared by your training institute. Always remember that practice is the key to your success in the exam. It can’t be the case at all that you hardly do practice of 1 or 2 reading passages and you can get high band score.
After solving every practice test, you come to know your weak points and silly mistakes. The more you are aware of your mistakes before exam, the better it is for you since you can then avoid them during the exam.
4. Manage Time Effectively
Plan how you are going to divide your time effectively for completing the 3 sections. Prepare a time based reading strategy and practice accordingly. Let’s say, you have 1 hour for your reading test which you can divide as 20 mins each for every section. Keep in mind that time is crucial for success in reading, so do solve the questions with focused mind so that you can complete them all within the time. Also, keep an eye on timer to stay updated how much time you are left with.
5. Stay Concentrated and Focused While Completing a Passage
Concentration is the most important skill that will lead you towards your target band score. Devote time at home for building up your concentration level by reading texts and practicing strictly keeping the timer with you to get the feel of exam. The more focused you are while you read the passages and solve the questions, the more quickly and accurately you are able to solve your answers.
6. Skim the Passage Properly
Skimming is the first major part of the reading test. It is nothing but reading the passage effectively. At the time you read a passage, just try to understand the main ideas of every paragraph you read. Getting a general idea or an overview of each paragraph is what we call meaningful read. One essential tip to skim a paragraph is to keep in mind the first and last line of that paragraph.
7. Underline Keywords
Practically, what is going to help in the reading test is when you underline important keywords in the passage and the questions as well. It is another way of gaining focus using abstract reading that makes you getting closer to find the answer. Some facts, figures, capitalized words etc. are some of the common words that we underline. Also, underline keywords when you read a question and try to find those keywords in the passage to identify the right paragraph that you will refer for finding your answer.
8. Follow the Scanning Process Carefully
After skimming the passage, scanning is the next major element of reading test and this is area that makes the difference when you find out answers correctly. You follow a particular process for scanning; firstly, use keywords from question to locate the right paragraph, read that paragraph to locate the right statement that refers to that question and then read the located statement to find the rights words (keeping in mind the word instruction) as you answer.
9. Always Find Answers in Order
A very basic thing that most of the students are simply unaware about is that your answers follow the same order in the passage as the order of your questions. So, if you have found answer to 3rd question in 2nd paragraph, you would not get answer to 4th question in 1st paragraph, for sure. In almost all the questions, you will find regularity like this, which can be an advantage for you for finding your answers.
10. Understand Paraphrasing and Vocabulary (Guess the Meaning)
Your questions in the reading test are paraphrased which means that different words or synonyms are used in the question. So, not every time you will find the words match with words in the passage. You may have to understand the question and then try to locate the right paragraph by understanding the synonyms. In this case, if you are not aware of the exact meaning of a particular word, even then you can solve the question, merely by understanding the complete statement and guessing the meaning of that complex word.
11. Pay Attention to the Focus of Question
In the question, there is one or the other word that you can consider as the focus of that question. This word will help you find the right answer. You just need to identify this kind of word in the question.
Let’s take an example for this,
Q. What is the major reason why the author did not revert back to his friend?
a. He did not want to continue friendship
b. He found social networking boring
c. He thought it was worthless to speak to him
d. He did not intend to have any negativity again.
Now, here is your paragraph:
Though I am not very fond of Facebook but last night, I just signed into my account and saw that my friend had sent me message on Facebook whether I would like to be in the party or not. After a very long time, I could hear from him for a get together. Last time, we met with each other; there was a huge argument after which I couldn’t get in touch with him. Though I wanted to meet him as well but as I was out of town and did not want to say no to him, I kept mum for a while and replied him after I came back to my place and then we had a grand party together.
The focus in the above question is “major reason”. Though all the reasons are somehow applicable but the major point is the last option as per the underlined statement in the above paragraph.
12. Guess your Answer Grammatically as Well
By looking at the question itself, you can come to know whether the answer would be a noun, adjective, verb, number or a word etc. This will help you a lot in identifying the right answers as grammar plays a very significant role for the same. Also, you can find out whether your answer is to be a singular word or plural word, which is what many of the times found that students are not transferring the answers correctly missing out writing “s” for a plural word.
13. Keep the Instruction in Mind
Word instruction is as important as finding the answer. Let us suppose that your instruction is ONE WORD ONLY but if you have mistakenly written two words as your answer, it would be marked wrong then. So, be careful about the given instruction. It is better to underline the instructions too like keywords.
14. Transfer Answers Carefully
Your answers, in almost all the cases, are to be the same words that you choose from the passage though sometimes you have to change the answer grammatically (for example, changing form of verb). Do not manipulate the answer in any way or do not even write synonym in its place. When you write the exact answer, then only you get the right mark. Also, prefer transferring answers simultaneously or after you complete one section, rather than doing it at the end.
15. Attempt all the Questions
Since there is no negative marking for a wrong answer, it is highly recommended that you should not leave any answer as blank. If you don’t know the answer, guess it rather than leaving blank completely. Who knows what you are guessing comes out to be the right answer. In case of guessed answer, you can mark that question so that you can review it later also if you get time at the end.
If you get confused on a particular question due to nervousness or since you are running out of time, first try to handle it patiently. If it does not work, do not spend too much time solving that single question only. Just guess it and keep on continuing with the rest of the passage.

Now a days employers find plenty of fresh employees lack essential abilities and cooperation to work with the team .I believe this process is led my lack of education and incomplete hiring process .This gap can be tackle by academic course and altering hiring standards.
To begin with countless workers lack of ability to work with each others which is cause by school only focusing on academic oriented environment ,As school deprive their chances to learn team work with their class mates .For example when I was in school teachers advice us concentrate only on achievements and do not waste time any thing else. Moreover another factors employers hiring process is depend on employees their grades marks in university. Therefore the education systems and hiring procedure to bring this issue force pupils to pay massive attention to learning books knowledge.
Furthermore to solve this issue to start extracurricular activities in schools for example painting ,dancing ,sports make students to learn basic skills meaning that require team sprit to taking part in activities .For instance taking part in leadership games and public speeches make them confidence and raise leadership quality skills and also improve relationship with team mates and colleague.
The fact is business use different methods to select candidates enquire work experiments as it makes candidates not only focus on books .Thus altering the minority of part from the school system of business hiring process make huge change in new employees.
To summarize due to inadequate educational structure and unsuitable evaluation of new workers ,they lack essentials skills of cooperation .As it can be tackle by improving extracurricular activities and amending the assessment of new employee.

Dear Sir,
I am writing you this letter to inform you that I am requesting for a work transfer in one of the Head Offices, particularly, in Singapore as soon as possible. This may seem hard for me to move to another location because I have some hectic schedules and loaded meetings with our clients ,Unfortunately, I really need to depart temporarily for only six months due to personal reason.
My husband has been admitted in one of the Hospitals in City of Singapore and it would be likely that he is going stay there in a couple of months until he gets well. Very timely, our Headquarter is nearby the location and so if I render my work there for a half year, I may be able to take care of my husband and visit him in the hospital during my break time and after work.
Since I am away, I can still contact them through a video call to expedite the meeting in order avoid other work conflicts with our customers.
Would you kindly help me on how to settle my request in a shorter period of time as well as advise me what other things you require in order for my work transfer to be approved immediately.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely Yours,
MJ
Social skills are very important not only with friends or family you know, but it is also equally important to make you become a good leader toward your career. However, most of the young peoples are lacked communication skills and we will discuss the causes in this essay.
First of all, in this digital age of the internet, the technology has changed human’s communication method. Most of the young peoples prefer to communicate via technology and this ultimately caused on reducing the interaction within colleagues and friends.
Besides, neither education system in Malaysia nor parents usually pay less attention on the communication’s development of the children. Subjects such as public speaking, interpersonal skill and cooperative skills seldom teach in the schools, and this has caused the negative impacts on confident level among Childs in connection to social skills.
Technology devices should be used moderately, while over depending on technology to the daily life will seriously affected the relationship and miscommunication within peoples. By having physical meeting and increasing number of frequencies of meeting with all the staffs will help to improve these conditions. Some of the corporate even organise certain activities such team building to the staffs to improve the interaction among staffs and encourage communication within them.
Finally, parents and education system equally playing indispensable roles to help on improving young generations’ interpersonal skills. This can be done by providing related subjects as the compulsory to be learned in the school.
In conclusion, social skills are imperative to succeed in career, but this can be solved with time and practice just like others skill.
WRITING TASK 1
Dear Mr. X,
I have been working in your team for last 4 years as a Senior Software Engineer. Over the last 4 years I have learnt many aspects of developing highly scalable systems and you might know I am the only member in your team who passed problem solving certification exam conducted by company.
Yesterday I got an email regarding "Expert Problem Solver Training" sent from company HQ. This training will be started within few weeks and last for 6 months. Employees who are interested must have previous certifications to get a chance for this training and have to stay at company HQ located at Sydney, Australia for next 6 months. As I am eligible based their requirements I am seeking your help to move to HQ and start the training.
I have already informed my team members to take additional responsibilities while I stay abroad. Moreover my plan is to delegate some responsibilities to other team also. My team members agreed to do so. Besides I will support remotely in critical situations.
So, if you are kind enough to arrange my transfer to HQ for the training, it would provide much benefit for my career in this company. I am expecting you will request to upper management about me citing my previous certifications and my interest.

Y
Nowadays many youngsters lack interpersonal skills and this has predominantly impacted few businesses. The reason for this may varu from person to person. Some of the reasons for this may be due to their upbringing, language trouble or a trauma that has affted them greatly.
The first reason may be attributed to their upbringing. Parents these days are opting for one child and are not available during their development stages. With many of them working and for late hours, leave their child to tend to itself. With the number of crimes increasing, most parents are not letting their children out in the open. Most of them are confined to the four walls of their homes. Children these days refuse to interact with others and this resonates to them turning into introverts. The second reason can be due to the language barrier. English is the most preferred langauge for bussiness operations. Most the the employeess may not be fluent in English and may develop some kind of a complex. The third reason may be due to a trauma that has wounded someone so deeply that they find it difficult to interact and have a basic conversation with people.
A possible solution would be for schools to include a couple of interpersonal skills in their syllabus. Teachers should be able to identify a child who is finding difficulty in communicating and provide necessary support. Schools should also give assignments which invloves interacting with people. Regular counselling is another way to help identify if there is any problem with the child. Many offices these day also have counsellors who can provide guidance. Companies have mandatory trainings that the employees should partake. Skill development should be made mandatory. Companies can also invite achievers in various field and have them talk about their experience which might help someone. Motivational speeches are said to be effective and might help improve their overall outlook.
The above solutions can be considered to improve communication skills.

Various organisations analyse that their neophyte workers are deficient with very basic social values those are fundamental to be a good human. These primary virtues defined as milestone for a successful business and better environment. This essay will first discuss diverse causes and then look at most viable solutions to mitigate with this complication.
To initialise with, materialistic approach is the diminishing factor contributing to selfishness irrespective of others situation even when your desire is somebody’s need. Additionally, less socialising activities because of much absorption in technological gadgets and online virtual friends contribute to shortening of moral codes those must for progressive society. Therefore, an attitude of looking own benefits and getting promotions by pressing other’s shoulders is referred as a new cooperative skill by newcomers.
To eradicate this problem from workplaces, the small but necessary steps should be undertaken from the early age of schooling by involving adolescent in different extra-curriculum activities that keep their basic skills of cooperation and teamwork under vigilance. Furthermore, these must include as an indispensable subject to be completed successfully for further study and motivate them to take part in sports activities where a group has to be succeeded for winning like in cricket and soccer that set examples of these values every year.
Conclusively, there is no doubt different sets of interpersonal skills are disappearing in today’s generation but with implementation of proper guidance among newcomers and arrangement of different programs at regular time in business firms can bring stupendous outcomes within corporate world. Moreover, technological sources can be used as a learning method for imbibing these primary codes and practising in real life for betterment and peace of mind.
Dear Shaym,
I am writing this letter to request you on the new Ontario migration and support project. Since this is new project and requires a lot of knowledge transfer on their infrastructure and datacentre design. I wish, to travel to customer’s main office for few months to sync up with the core team within their time zone for productive co-ordination.
However, my assignments can be completed without any delay upon connecting to our systems and databases through our VPN (Virtual Private Network). Besides, I will connect with our team every day and whenever they needed for any priority or pending tasks.
Moreover, there is no documentation and inventory provided by the customer. This will help us to design their setup and we would have a chance to reclaim few hardware’s and legacy devices on their inventory. So, obviously this will be our first achievement. Hence,
please help me with your approval and further travel arrangements.
I appreciate, if you could communicate the same with customer on my travel in upcoming discussions.
Yours Sincerely,

This is undeniable to say that some people lack interpersonal skills and shown non-cooperative behavior towards peers and colleagues. This issue is in existence for so many years and organizations are reducing profits by providing training to the staff for their betterment and receptive attitude. The human resource team plays a vital role in this context and helps to transform people and try inculcating good values in the system.
To begin with, It's the prevalent conviction by a large section of society that fresher or lack of experience triggers immature behavior amongst people. However, My perspective is different, there could be so many other reasons such as non-competitive feeling, unclear policy, low confidence, personality traits. moreover, On the basis of various studies and researches, freshers come from a different school and college background hence this could be difficult for them to adjust into the system but nevertheless, they learn gradually and try accepting change.
On the contrary, another aspect that holds significance importance is proper training and grooming can help to conquer this problem. The human resource team should organize training for all new joiners and the focus area should be learning cooperative skills. Furthermore, They should understand the importance of team efforts and how helping each other could be very salient for the overall performance of the organization. Although, there are few people who don't accept any change or shows resistance due to their personality traits. Hence, The interview process should be strong enough to eliminate such candidates.
To recapitulate, On the basis of various studies and researches, this problem can be resolved up to some extent by proper training and grooming. In addition to this, There should some tests to check cultural fitment and personality traits of new joiners in order to understand their fitment in the organization.
Writing task 2 - Please provide your valuable comments
Nowadays, it has become very difficult to find new employees with good skill sets. It has been observed that many new employees lack in basic interpersonal skills such as cooperative skills. There can be several reasons behind this.
First and the most prominent cause can be the new employees are freshers, directly hired from school campus after their graduation with no prior experience. As we all know, It is a hard transition from student life to working persons when it's your first job. There are many skills which students have to enhance
in their first job.
Second important point can be the curriculum. In most of the schools and universities if enough courses are not taught which can improve the interpersonal skills of students then this can result in new graduates with lack of interpersonal skills. It can be also because of the geographical location or cultural change. If the newly hired employee is from different country or from different regional then that can also cause some lack of interpersonal skills
There are several ways to address this issue. First of all, Companies have to assess their employees thoroughly while bringing them onboard. Their weak areas should be identified. Special training sessions should be arranged so that such weak areas can be improved. Schools/Universities should also focus of including some courses
which caters the need of businesses. It should be business oriented and should cover some part time training in companies. Frequent meetings should be arranged with the new employees to asses the areas where they are lacking in interpersonal skills. Feedback in positive way can be given to new employees so that they
can improve weak areas. Team building exercises such as potluck parties, sports on weekends should be arranged where cooperation from every team member is required.
I personally believe that if corrective actions mentioned above are taken then companies are less likely to face issue of employees with lack of basic interpersonal skills
Dear Sir,
I am writing this letter for allowing me to work for six months in our company head office located in Houston, USA. Fortunately, I learnt about this six months cross-country employee work training program from one of my colleague.
As you are aware I am dealing with many clients in North America region from last couple of years. This work training program will definitely enhance the nontechnical and social skills required. Also, direct interaction with native American colleagues will surely enhance my spoken English skills.
Currently, I am working on two USA projects only. So, I should be able to manage the work from the company head office. More ever, It will give me an opportunity to meet the clients face to face.
Therefore, I request you to kindly arrange my travel for this work training program.
Thank you very much in advance! I am looking forward to hearing from you soon.
Best Regards,
Josh
Yes, I agree to a large extent that newcomers or freshers are lacking interpersonal skills. They are just of colleges and want to create a strong foothold in the organisation and some sort of competitive spirit remains with them and so most of the time they are non-cooperative with their peers. They try to create a personal reputation with their immediate bosses at the cost of cooperative skills and generally ignore a helping hand for their newly joined colleagues.
The major reason for their such kind of behaviour is survival for the fittest. They are having just bookish knowledge of their subjects but people dealing is not their forte at that time. They try to save their job and produces a kind of self-made shell and are hardly concerned about problems or difficulties faced by others in the office. For example, when a new computer engineer joins the Information technology company, he goes through the probation period along with some kind of trainings.Their are other engineers as well who compete themselves to qualify the exam after numerous training so that they can be retained in the job. This kind of initial atmosphere pushes them out of official social circle and unintentionally they inherit non-cooperative skills.
Solutions can be some sort of training by Human resources experts who are good at psychology and can groom individuals to understand the importance of interpersonal skills. Some seminars can be held during getting together where all colleagues have one to one chat and get to know everybody well. Company outings to some group tours can be arranged so as new employees spend free time out of the office together which would help them mentally tuned to each other and resolve the issue of interpersonal skills.
Dear Sir,
I am delighted to know that I would be travelling abroad to work for the company Headquarters in Chicago. Well, this chance has given me the buoyant feeling to work with international colleagues with multi-cultural,multi-lingual people and above all, the opportunity to learn global work ethics.

Dear Sir/Madam,
I am writing this letter in regard to express my interest to work in our company's head office, which is located in North Carolina, United States for six months.
Recently, our company had announced an extensive training program on the development of new software to test chemical purity based on its density for mid-size businesses. Not only it will help me to train junior employees for the same, but also it can be useful for small size businesses like our company. Apart from that, I was promoted as a senior officer for quality test analysis and I think it is very beneficial for me to have global exposure in the same field.
The training programme is to be held on the 10th of October at our head office and I have already talked to my manager about my absence during that time. Although we will have an audit in October, I will remain available during any emergency. Additionally, my manager has given me the security to fill the void in our team due to my absence to complete a routine work schedule for our company.
In the end, I would like to request you to please give me your support by providing approval to my request. You can also see my report for daily work. I have always tried to make our company prided by my skills and commitment.
I can not wait to hear your response and I hope that you consider my situation favorably.
Yours faithfully,
Juli Patel
One for all, all for one. This was one of the defining mottos of Alexander Dumas’s famous novel, the three musketeers. However, in the current business world, many businesses feel as though the younger generations of employees lack interpersonal skills such as cooperation completely.
I believe the reason for this lack of interpersonal skills is primarily on account of the advent of nuclear families and academically inclined education system. A child growing up in a nuclear family does not understand the importance and need for sharing, caring and helping others. This is primarily because he is always entitled to the attention of the parents. Thus preventing him from empathizing with siblings or relatives for extended periods of time. This leads to a child whose inter personal skills are stunted during growth. The academic heavy education system leaves children little time to play and socialize on the playground. Several research studies have shown, a child develops a lot of social skills in the playground such as leadership, communication, empathy and co operation.
Absence of both these factors lead to the development of an adult who is interpersonally limited. Hence, leading to the complain by businesses today.
The solution to this problem would be to provide preferences to hiring individuals who have extensive extra curricular team activities on their resume. In case of existing employees, teach them the importance of empathetic working and co operation through workshops organized by industry professionals. The holistic solution to the problem would be to teach children the importance of interpersonal skill growing up through activities which are fun and educational.
This would ensure the development of a generation which believes in growth through unity and cooperation instead of growth at the cost of others.

Dear Sir/Madam,
I am writing this to let you know about my keen interest in the upcoming project of 'Webo-AI', which is going to start by next month at the head office. I studied about this project. It was stated that the company requires a skilled engineer for six months and they will not give accommodation and food allowance. I want to inform you that I have many closed relatives residing in the UK, therefore accommodation, food, and travel won't be a problem. Moreover, I have an experience of 1 year in robotics from a renowned company; it is mentioned in my attached resume.
Here I was working on 'Project-15', which my team and I have recently completed. It is in the testing phase that can be done without me. Although the work done is flawless, but even if they want my assistance, I will be in touch via Skype.
I humbly request you to kindly consider my case. I would be very grateful if you spend your precious time and have a look at my resume. If you find me worthy, please help me with the further arrangements that need to be done to avail of this opportunity.
I am looking forward to hearing from you at your earliest convenience.
Yours sincerely,
Syeda Talea Imam
The communication skills for newly joined employees on any company will differ according to their past experiences and their level of education. Not all new employees have lack of interpersonal skills and cooperative skills. However, some others have a real lack of those skills. I’ll be taking about the causes for this lack of skills and their solutions.
Firstly, different cultural and language background than the company or the country of this company. For instance, most companies in US, Canada and Australia hire people of different backgrounds and ethnic groups. If the employee is immigrant and new to this country, this employee needs a considerate amount of time to adapt with the new environment and to get along with others. To solve this barrier between the new employee and the senior others, he/she must attend an induction training course to educate him/her about the company’s environment and structure. Furthermore, him/her must be introduced to other colleagues so they would feel comfortable with other employees.
Secondly, the past experiences of the new employee might differ than the one who has previous experience. Junior employees, who has no past experiences, their interaction with other might be limited due to shyness or lack of knowledge of interpersonal & communication skills. Therefore, I see that all employees must attend a training course on interpersonal and communication skills. That would educate them with the proper way of communication at the company.
Finally, educational level and qualification also might affect communication at work. Therefore, the company must look carefully at the resume of all applied candidate prior to hiring them and avoid biased. Accordingly hire the most appropriate candidate based on their education and qualification.

Some businesses find that their new employees lack basic interpersonal skills such as cooperative skills. What are the causes? Suggest possible solutions.
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience
You should write at least 250 words.
In today’s modern era, Organizations have become more and more competitive in every aspect of business, thus creating environment of competition in society and education. It has been observed that new generation people lack’s the Interpersonal skills which is thus affecting the individuals and Cooperate business. Here I shall elaborate the causes of such phenomena and possible outcome to improve the current scenario.
Interpersonal Skills are basically the communication and attitude skills which various from person to person, this can be enhance with proper training and learning right from early age. Today’s Education is all about academic competition, where importance is given to score maximum in Test papers. This has created a scenario, where less importance is provided to Interpersonal skills development. For instance, a student top in all academic test paper throughout the year and get the best job on result of academic score, as the competition continues, the employee finds it difficult to grow, only because not able to show Co-operative skill to management. Thus, a talented employee loss an opportunity to scale new job responsibility, which in turn affects the Organizations. Educational Department should take the necessary steps, where emphasis should also be given to both Conventional and Non-conventional communication along with academic subjects. Students should be trained and thought about various aspect of communication, such as team building, knowledge sharing, written and oral communication, motivation, empathy and so on.
In summary, the responsibility of growth will always be with an individual, where it can only be accomplished by proper training and practices. In order to build a strong nation, Education Department should teach Interpersonal Skills in Schools and Colleagues. Also, the Organization should provide regular training programmed on Co-operative skills to its employee, thus provide chance to right employee to grown and flourish in Organization.

TASK 2
Many businesses have recently discovered that most of their staff lack cooperation among each other at the workplace.
It is true that businesses suffer a great amount of losses because of inefficiency of the human capital working for that organisation- the employees lack effective communication and cordial relationship and as a result, the business suffers.
It is very common practice among International companies that workers are not collaborating with each other for some obvious reasons; racial, religious, gender discrimination and many other factors. Multinational companies are known to employ people from different background of life and these people often work together in an enclosed space for a limited amount of time daily. They have different family background, training and orientation. It's very unlikely that they can work effectively together without proper training and orientation during the on boarding stage of their recruitment. The training must be conducted annually to remind them of the need to work together as an organisation with a common goal- to achieve the aim and objectives of the business.
Most companies are able to avoid such discrimination among their employees by employing workers from the same racial origin in a particular department. In this way, the differences among the employees will be very minimal. But this does not promote multicultural environment. For a business to be successful, people from different background and skills must come together to work for a common goal. The ability for a Nigerian to work with a Pakistan in the same room speak a lot about an organisation. It means the organisation does not promote discrimination and provide equal opportunity for everyone.
From a personal experience, I was working in the Nigeria Gas Company, a subsidiary of NNPC (Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation). I was in the IT department with about 20 employees from different regions in Nigeria. I am from Delta State, while some others are from Lagos State, Kaduna State and so on. I can recall that during my stay in the company, each time I get to work in the morning and a staff from another State sees me, he just look aside without saying a word...not even a smile. When I greet him, he doesn't respond. But immediately he sees his brother from the same ethnic community, he switches to a happy mood. This was a common practice in that company and I believe it's still practiced til date.
Tribal discrimination, racial or religious discrimination should not be taken for granted. This will impact on the overall performance of the business. There must be proper and effective communication and interpersonal relationship among staff for a company to be successful.
TASK 1
Dear Sir/Madam,
I am writing to inform you that I would love to work in our Head Office in Australia.
I want to work in our Head Office in Australia for a six month span because orientation program, which was organised by the Chief Executives of our company in Australia will be taking place for employees . I was among the selected few to partake in this fast track program. The program is related to my work description as a Software Engineer. This is an opportunity to develop my skills and expand my already existing knowledge of the course.
This will not affect operation of my work in the branch where I am currently working in Nigeria because I have made all necessary arrangement to cover all loopholes ensuring that the overall operation of the job is not affected by my absence by liaising with Amaara (my assistant) to perform the daily routine in the office relating to my work. I will be communicating regularly and effectively with her on skype, phones and emails to ensure she is effectively covering the job's activities.
Would you assist me in securing this leave? It will be much appreciated.
Thank you for your considerations.
Yours Faithfully,
Ken.

TASK1- first attempt at all ( SORRY FOR WRITING IT TOO LONG AS TOO MUCH IDEAS(: I am an Asian-22 YRS OLD UNIVERSITY GRADUATES- currently recruitment consultant)
Dear Manager,
How are you? I hope you are doing well. This is Mika Tang from the department of Human Resources Management in the U.S., and I hope you feel satisfied of my overall performance in the previous 8 months. I hope i find you right. Throughout the past 8 months, I believe that the experiences that I have been gaining here and all the difficulties that I have encountered successfully have moulded me into a better and presentable person. I was a shy girl when I first came here, but my little girl has grown up already and I think it’s time for me to walk out from my comfort zone. So I am writing to apply a similar position in our company’s head-quarter for the upcoming six months.I really want to gain more relevant experiences and work harder to become as successful as you in the foreseeable future. And working in the headquarter in Singapore will definitely be a big challenge for me.Here are the reasons why I think I am a suitable candidate that deserve this golden opportunity.
Honestly speaking, I trust that working in Singapore will be much busier than in U.S. as I have to attend the general meeting every single week with the Directors of the Business department, marketing department and other departments. I will have to do more individual presentations in front of much more colleagues and our corporate partners than in U.S. As I know that the working culture in Singapore is completely different from working here, each assignments or written proposals which are assigned to me have to be done as quick as possible with high accuracy and high quality. Maybe I was given few weeks to complete a great and detailed proposal before. However, working in Singapore is totally opposite because we need to finish any tasks with fast speed like within a week and it can be considered as a kind of more intensive training .Ari,you are a good mentor and I am more than glad to work as an assistant of Human Resources Manager under your supervision. I have a mixed feeling as I feel excited to learn about different new things and grow from mistakes that I had made yesterday. If I can be given a chance to work in the head-quarter, I know that I can become a more mature and independent candidate to assist you. Since I know that the senior assistant Ms Leung is going to retire in this few years ,and as we discussed before I hope I can be the one to assist you more and reduce your workload.
I trust that you have witnessed my growth in such a short period of time and thank you for appreciating my hard efforts and my ability. Thank you for selecting me as the most hard-working staff , even I have found it quite difficult on being highly productive and doing mulit-tasks intensively without any relevant experiences at the very beginning time. Thank you for your clear guidance and substantial supports .For the remaining work, I have communicated well with the other colleagues, they are willing to share my workloads and be supportive for my application.
This project will be one of the most important one for us in this upcoming half years, but I believe that it has already set up a goo base for our future corporation. Even I work in Singapore, I can also give opinions and keep contacts with our business partners as I know that the head-officce will also get involved in this project in the final stage. Our colleagues over the world are helpful at all and I think that it would not be a big problem for any different arrangement.
I would appreciate if you could help me in setting up a base in our Head Office for a period of six months.
Warm Regards
Mika Tang

Writing Task 2
It is complained by global companies, that their businesses are growing in swanky pattern all around the globe. Business skills such as interpersonal skills, communications skills, and team spirit specifically lower in new joiners compared to laterals, could be a major cause. This need to be addressed to find a solution.
In the era of globalization, sustaining without any discrimination between men and women, also lack of interpersonal skills, should be the most predominant factor to consider. To elaborate, academic success of brilliant students is measured in terms their ability to grasp volumetric syllabus with little focus on extracurricular activities. Students having good grades having most preference over the others. Consequently, take part in sports and games, which may enhance their interpersonal skills.
To overcome this problem, it is much vital in change of current education grading system which diverts them to be as a highly skilled person but not taking responsibilities. It is most pivotal that a student should excel in all manners not only books, not in grades, in team spirit and stand ahead in queue and be identical for the employers. Organisation’s also need to improve their evaluation method while recruiting a person. In recent, big companies are scheduling Hackathons, competitions, coding practices to judge their employee’s strengths and weaknesses.
Furthermore, instead of merely academics some interviews and group discussions can be used to analyze potential of future co-workers. It also useful to determine that how new employees differ and innovate things while doing the any chores.
To sum up, faulty education system and wrong perception between the team members, students which also caters such issues. As a solution, information sharing should not be restricted between colleagues and employees could join critical extracurricular activities that help them to be a good competitor who can win or lose, as an integral part of learning process throughout life – strongly recommended by researchers as well.

writing task 2
Other businesses see that their novice workers are lack of basic interpersonal skills like cooperative skills. This essay will talk about low self-esteem and deficiency of communication as the causes of these problems. This essay will also discuss about the possible solutions such as imposing respect to one another and recognizing their worth.
Low self-esteem is the main cause to deficiency of interpersonal skills in addition to insufficient communication. Because, firstly, when a person is not confident enough to do the particular task they would be afraid to work with others. Secondly, lack of communication could create conflict and they would tend to work alone. For example, bed bathing to patient. It must be two persons would do this but because the novice employee did not ask for help and afraid to have error in front of the senior staff he/she opt to do it alone. In conclusion, new employees are deficient to cooperative skills due to poor self-esteem and no open communication.
However, these causes would be prevented if all employees either old or new have respect to each other and recognize their worth. Respects are the keys to open communication and recognizing their role as so worthy will boost their confidence. For example, patient suffered from cardiac arrest. As a group of being a code blue responder everyone has a role. In giving such role the leader must respect to their limitations as they know their own capacity which would be great in reviving the patient. Such way, they would be encouraged to cooperate as they have confidence to the task they have choosen.
Therefore, I conclude that, to establish basic interpersonal skills such as cooperative skills respect to one another must be implemented and recognizing their worth must be verbalized to gain high self-esteem and promote sufficient communication.

Dear Sir/Ma’am,
I am writing to inform you that I wanted to work in our head office in another country for the period of six months effective immediately. My purpose in working there are, first, to develop more knowledge about the overall system in running the company’s business. Secondly, in order to enhance my abilities that would contribute the welfare of the company.
In line with this, I would like to refer my colleague to substitute my role temporarily. While I am not around he will be the one to do my functions as head nurse. Before leaving, I will endorse to him everything and would definitely train as much as possible. Surely, he could manage the unit with less supervision. He is a kind of person that can do his responsibilities in a calm manner despite of many pressure and stressors.
Therefore, I humbly ask you to help me arrange this plan. Please give a call to the head office about the reasons of going there, the date of my arrival, and about my accommodation.
I am hoping for your consideration. Thank you!
Sincerely Yours,
Riza
Nowadays many employees lack interpersonal qualities such as communication skills or team spirit. This could be due to the inadequacies of our education system and the method of interview used to select employees. Both problems need to be addressed to find a solution.
The most predominant factor which leads to lack of interpersonal skills in potential employees is our education system itself. To elaborate, academic success of students is measured in terms of their ability to grasp voluminous syllabus with little focus / emphasis on extracurricular activities. Employers also give preference to candidates with good academic grades. Consequently, students focus on improving their scores in exams rather than participating in sports and other events, which may enhance their interpersonal skills.
To tackle this problem, it is important to change the grading criteria of students and the selection method of employees. If students are given extra marks for participating in a college function or stage programme, they will make these activities a part of their study life. And when they work with their college mates they will acquire useful skills such as teamwork, interpersonal communication or leadership.
Furthermore, instead of focusing solely on their academic grades, interviewers should test candidates from various aspects to judge their true potential. For instance, group discussion before an interview can be used to analyse how participants accept others’ opinion or how they react to differing views.
In conclusion, our faulty grading system and the focus on academic success are the reasons for the lack of interpersonal skills among employees. The only solution to this problem is to make extracurricular activities an integral part of the learning process.

WRITING TASK 1
Dear Mr Tanvir,
Having worked under your supervision for more than 4 years, I have certainly learnt a great deal about our company and my roles as a product development team member. I am writing to show my appreciation and to seek your permission to work in our head office in Sydney, Australia.
Recently, I have come to know about a 6-month program, which is about to start in a few weeks at our company head office, focusing solely on “niche product development techniques” for new recruits. The program may have been designed for the new talents of our company, but I feel like a seasoned employee like me would also be able to benefit a lot from such initiative that doesn’t really come by every now and then.
I have already arranged for a couple of very talented interns to help our team. I have also requested other team members of my team to take the additional responsibilities in my absence, and they all agreed. Moreover, I will be able to communicate and help my team over the phone and emails whenever required.
Now, only if you are kind enough to take the lead in arranging a transfer to the head office by citing my reasons for it to the upper management, should I be able to join the program in due time.
Thank you for your help in advance.
Yours sincerely,
WRITING TASK 2
Many businesses have discovered that new employees often lack the communication skills. This can be attributed to an excessive focus on professional skills in college and a weak foundation in the language since childhood. These issues can be resolved through extensive reforms in the education system.
The primary focus of most colleges and universities is to train students for technical tasks. There are almost no teachers and courses in communication skills since these are considered irrelevant for engineers, accountants, and doctors. Consequently, many fresh graduates have no idea how to communicate with their colleagues. Moreover, the education system from elementary studies to university focus on science and mathematics as these subject are supposed to build careers. Languages, which for the core of communication skills, are considered mere necessary evils that need to be crammed. The students prefer to just pass the exams in English, French, German and Latin and are expected to excel in sciences. This creates a poor foundation for communication skills and most new employees find it impossible to talk to their teammates.
I think this issue can only be resolved through a radical restructuring of the education system. Boards of education, such as the CBSE in India, along with schools and teachers need to inform students and parents about the utility of communication in building strong careers. Moreover, the courses in literature should be made more interactive so that the students abandon the habit of cramming. This can be done through videos and role-plays. Colleges should allocate subjects dedicated to improving the speaking, writing, listening and reading skills of students. They should be encouraged to write letters, essays on contemporary topics.
In conclusion, the problem of poor communication skills has cropped up due to the extreme focus on technical skills and poor foundation in literature. This can be solved through the active collaboration of educational institutions, teachers, parents, and students.
great essays, well done!
Finding the perfect balance of technical and interpersonal skills are getting difficult these days. Though it is still easier to get people with excellent analytical or technical expertise but finding talent along with interpersonal skills, is a tough task. This essay will discuss the causes of the lack of interpersonal skills and possible solutions to it.
The problem arises when the employee is not passionate about the job he/she is doing. Firstly, it’s essential for an employee to feel the motivation towards the job he is doing, in today’s world, people treat their job as just the source of income. Even the fresh talent doesn’t have that zeal to pursue the career passionately, for them, the job is all about finishing the daily working hours for which they are being paid. Secondly, it also depends on the employers, what efforts they are putting in to motivate their employees. In most of the cases, employees are just bothered about their own business goals rather than thinking about employee benefits, rewards and recognition. In short, to expect better productivity both in terms of technical and interpersonal skills, both employee and employer need to put in equal efforts.
Value for money is decreasing day by day — the young generation demand for what additional an organisation can offer apart from the handsome pay package. The first solution to the problem is to have a proper team building programmes introduced by the human resources department that may involve team outings and team activities to enhance the interpersonal skills of an individual. Studies show that 80% of employee feel more engaged with their work when they have a robust social network in the workplace. The second solution to motivate an employee is to introduce different rewards and recognitions on a different level of employment that can only be achieved via team activities. By doing this, the employer will be able to force their people to develop strong interpersonal skill.
This essay discussed both the causes and solutions of a lack of interpersonal skills in employees. A delicate balance between both the skills can take any organisation to the zenith.
Task 1
Dear Manager,
Hope you are doing great.
This is context to Project Sigma, on which we have invested the past 18 months. I had a meeting with the client last week in order to ensure a successful closure of the project within the stipulated time frame. The client insists that it will be better if a representative from our team is present to see the project through the final stages. As per their belief, this would ensure synergy & prompt actions.
As you know, the project is critical for our organization, I also believe that it is better for me to visit the site and work from there during the final stages. Our Head Office in India is a genuine option as it is only 2 hours away from the project site. I can operate from there for 6 months to ensure a seamless closure to the project. Two of my other projects are also based in India so such an arrangement will also suit meeting clients for those projects.
I would appreciate if you could help me in setting up a base in our Head Office for a period of six months.
Regards

Task 2
Plato said,” Human behavior flows from three sources: Desire, emotion and knowledge”.
Are all humans made equal? Do all humans have the same story? Do all humans have same strengths & weaknesses? Every human being is unique with her own shortcomings & strengths. Various factors like environment, temperament & desires shape every human in a different way.
Just like each human, every business has peculiar requirements. In sales industry, interpersonal skills are critical. Conversely, interpersonal skills might not be as crucial as technical expertise in software industry due to the contrasting nature of the industries.
It might so happen that an incumbent might not possess all the desirable traits to thrive in the industry. Such a short coming can be attributed to various reasons like attitude, knowledge, emotions or all of them. There might be a chance that the new comer is simply unaware of the shortcoming and willing to improve. In such a scenario, managers must discuss the performance & provide honest reviews as a mentor.
Even if enough time & guidance is not sufficient to help the person improve then it calls for strict regulations to be imposed. The subject shall be informed of all the traits required to effectively fulfil her job responsibilities and put under probation. Performance of the subject under probation will determine if she shall be incentivized or penalized. If there is no significant improvement after various attempts of different natures and severity then the candidate must be asked to find an industry or job more suited to her strengths. After all, the individual might have skills & strengths to thrive in other roles effortlessly.
