Writing Task 1

Dear Mr. Malcolm,

I was informed by the HR Department that we have a so called 'Young talent Exchange Program' in our company. This program allows employees from the subsidiary companies to go to the headquarters in London for a period up to a year in order to enhance their experiecne. Mrs James, the HR Partner, has just confirmed my eligibility to take part in this program for six months, starting from June 1 2023. Participating in this program will allow me to learn more about the introduction of the new SAP HEC module, which has already been functioning in the headquarter's office for a while. As you know, according to the timetable our subsidiary needs to introduce the HEC module next year.

If you give your concent, and I go to London, Linda, the new accountant, will fill in me. She is completely ready to do most of my work, and I always can help her and coordinate the work online.

I would like you to help me not to miss this opportunity, because it is a win-win case for all the people involved. The only thing required from you is your consent in written form.

Looking forward to your soon reply,

Yours sincerely,

Janeth.

Task 2

You should spend about 40 minutes on this task.

Some businesses find that their new employees lack basic interpersonal skills such as cooperative skills. What are the causes? Suggest possible solutions.

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience

You should write at least 250 words.

Some companies report that newly hired personnel has severe problems with communicating

and soft skills in general. Although this might not be a consistently reported problem, but there are certain general causes for such a state of affairs in some businesses. Obviously some tools to cope with the named problem should exist. Below I will try to give an account on this issue.

Our world is becoming increasingly digitalized, and most of the services, that previously required interpersonal communication, are now rendered through a couple of clicks on one's mobile phone. This is one of the reasons why people's soft skills are deteriorating: humans simply don't need those skills anymore. Even though it is a stretch to present this as a natural evolution of behaviours, there is still some logic behind this argument.

Another reason for new employees to lack cooperative skills might be the neglect of soft skills in the education system. Undeniably, nowadays there is more appreciation of the idea of teaching soft skills to students at schools and univerisities. But, perhaps, minding the digitalization of our communications, those efforts should also be reconsidered.

It is also important to underline the role of the family and parents in enhancing the ability of their kids and youngsters to be cooperative and friendly. The issue, of course, is considerably more profound, but the institute of the traditional family is being reconsidered today too. This also, at the end of the day, impacts on what companies get as a workforce.

Overall the importance of interpersonal communication skills, while being at the work setting, is unquestionable. Therefore, in my opinion, people should be taught these skills either at school or in family. Moreover the development of modern techonologies and their impact on the society, which in its turn, is also constantly changing, should be taken into account whenever teaching any types of skills, including the soft ones.
