Capital punishment has been a controversial argument that is still being discussed today. It is the pay for those people who committed heinous crimes like rape, homicide, parricide, and the like. The death penalty is a part of this aspect. Some say that it is unethical to intervene in this regulation because it deals with lives. However, to others, it would be a justifiable castigation for those who take away innocent lives.

Nowadays, crimes are still rampant. Our society is encountering fears and uncertainties. For instance, minor crimes like robbery, carnapping, battery, and assaults are common records in our justice system. On the other hand, these forms of crimes have merely been punished through imprisonment, detention, and specific bail. However, if we are discussing killings and rapes, this serious violence should be stopped. There should be a warranted expiation for the perpetrators and perhaps the death penalty would be the solution for this.

In my point of argument, capital punishment should be implemented. People who suffer from those crimes have the right to seek fair justice. This is also an avenue to warn society of the consequences, thus, would let people become more conscious of their own actions. People should also be responsible and accountable also for their lives in order to prevent this kind of situation.

In conclusion, this discussion needs to be dealt with properly because the people's lives are at stake. As long as it is unbiased and equitable judgment, then capital punishment is the solution for serious crimes.

Offenders of society should always be reprimanded by the state for to uphold societal tranquility while ensuring the protection of life and property. Despite some argument that capital deterrent should not be permitted in society. However, I disagree with this notion and believe that such method of punishment should be implemented for heinous offenses.

To being with, If criminals who commit serious crimes like murder, rape and kidnapping are not punished severely, it passes a message to the public that these behaviors are somewhat condoned. For instance, the death penalty is a punishment laid out for war crimes in Nigeria, a country that suffered devastating atrocities of war by war lords and dictators in the nineties. Ever Since this law was enacted, there have been peace in the country. This however, shows how a society can get the massage that such treacherous offenses are not encouraged.

On the other hand, Capital punishment can be detrimental to the people at large. Obviously, not all incarcerated people in society are offenders as it is well known that no criminal justice system is perfect, an so often times the judiciary gets her verdict wrong and imprisons an innocent person. For instance, with the growing number of false rape accusations cases today, one cannot justify the drastic measures utilized in handling such cases as multiple men are being severely reprimanded and their families consequently destroyed as a result of brutal sentences from wrongly indictment. Catastrophes such as this would cease to exist if such forms of punishments.

To conclude, although every society must device various methods to ensure that every law offender pays for their crime. Considerably, since the judicial arm of government cannot guarantee the sufficiency of its justice system. Responsible authorities should consider the downsides of enacting inhumane penalties for law breakers.

Task 1:

We can see in the chart below that there are generally more girls than boys enrolled in school whichever level, year, or country it is. On primary education, we can see there is little difference on the ratio of the genders enrolled. Same can also be said on the secondary education of developed countries having the closest ratio among all graphs. Opposite to this, developing countries in the secondary edcuation has the biggest gap between the number of girls and boys enrolled. Tertiary education has almost the same number of difference in gender enrolled among both types of countries. But they have the biggest gap of enrollees between developing and devloped countries.

The graph tells us that developed countries definitely has more number of enrolled students than developing countries. Developing countries have more resources, thus giving more opportunities for education. The gap between the number of enrollees also increases as the level of education rises. This is more likely because students from developing countries are less likely to afford secondary and tertiary education for either gender.

Task 2:

Capital punishment or commonly known as death penalty has been part of human history since the earliest civilizations. It has been one of the most utilized way of punishing criminals aside from being imprisoned. From being one of the universal way of punishment, it has become a thing in the past for recent history.

Many people belive that death penalty is great deterrent to prevent people from doing crimes. One can say that it is a simple and fair way to punish a criminal, and would easily rid this world of evil people. It is probably the efficiency of it which is why many people support it. If a criminal of a serious crime has been proven guilty, it does make sense to just hang a noose around his neck than imprison him and keep paying for the cost of living of a prisoner. One would argue that why would someone who commited serious crime deserve to live in this world.

However, there are also many people against this type of punishment. As humankind progress, we also change our way of thinking morally and ethically. People are now concerned on the morality of our past ways have been, which is why capital punishment has lost its appeal in the recent years. Many countries in the world have already abolished capital punishment for its perception as an inhumane method of punishing criminals. There is also the controversy of what kinds of crimes desrve to be punished by death, and innocent people losing their life due to incorrect decisions.

To give my own opinion, I think that capital punishment is still applicable to some extent today. It could still be applied for criminals who have commited the gravest of crimes. It should be noted that the trial for these punishments should be taken by the most competent judges. But, it should also be heavily probed by an external or international governing body, because there is the big issues that some capital punishments are given to people who really doens't deserve death, or worse are fully innocent.

Task 1:

The bar chart illustrates the number of girls per 100 boys enrolled in various levels of school education.

Firstly, one clear data point we can derive from this graph is the fact that the passage of time has brought more equality of the two genders globally as far as this specific issue is concerned. This becomes obvious by observing that the number of girls per 100 boys was higher in 1998 than in 1990 across all levels of school education.

Furthermore, another important fact we can deduce from this chart is the lower percentage (in both years) of girls' participation in the school system in developing countries in relation to developed countries. This gap becomes more stark as the level of education becomes more advanced, with the larger discrepancy being observed at the tertiary level.

In fact, developed countries in the primary and secondary levels of education have almost achieved parity between the genders, while at the tertiary level the number of girls actually exceeds that of boys. However, developing countries are still lagging behind in this respect at all school education levels.

Task 2:

The issue of capital punishment is a controversial subject globally and different countries and governments have taken different approaches to its enforcement. On an individual level, some people are against its usage, while others support its implementation for the most heinous crimes.

On the one hand, people contrary to capital punishment often cite the axiomatic belief that people's lives are the ultimate representation of their individual rights and thus they should never be involuntarily ended. Thus they first make an appeal to the sanctity of human life itself. In addition, they argue in favour of the original purpose of prisons, as a means of separating an individual from society at worst and functioning as rehabilitation centres at best, even for the most violent criminals. A related perspective is that, even for criminals who are unable to be rehabilitated, a lifetime prison sentence can serve as a punishment worse than death.

On the other hand, those who support capital punishment for the most serious crimes adopt the position that by violating others' most fundamental rights the criminal has surrendered their own rights by default. Also they believe that the justice system should primarily act as a deterrent to future criminals and thus punishment, especially for the worst crimes, should be treated as revenge and should be as severe as possible.

Personally, I am in opposition to the death penalty. I believe that death should only be voluntarily accepted by an individual for the reasons stated above. Also, statistically speaking, the death penalty does not deter serious crime, but rather simply correlates with it. This means that it is entirely possible that more death penalties are just a by-product of higher murder rates, which stem originally from worse socioeconomic conditions of the target country or state. Ameliorating these conditions, such as poverty, should be the first step in reducing crime.

Thus capital punishment may not actually reduce any future serious crimes at all. It's worth mentioning too that countries with low-crime rates and a widespread implementation of the death penalty or in general severe justice system sentences are often extremely authoritarian and rank very low as far as overall quality of life and societal happiness is concerned.

Last but not least, one of the most important arguments in my opinion against capital punishment is the indisputable fact that about 5% of all criminals sentenced to be killed are actually innocent, due to mistakes in the justice system or corrupt court or police cases. In my view killing innocent people is an unacceptable trade-off for the very low probability that the implementation of the death penalty has any positive societal effects in reducing crime rates.
