The advantages of the spread of English as a global language will continue to outweigh its disadvantages. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

You should write at least 250 words.

Nowadays, considering the ever-expanding globalisation, a burning issue is the spread of the english language all over the world. Notably, opinions that argue about this topic have been expressed even from the early expansion of the language.

Delving into this issue, it is necessary to mention the reasons and the needs that lead on countries to decide about using a global language. First of all, the most significant reason is the need for communication not only between citizens of various countries around the world, but heads of states as well. Particularly, in order to communicate in every occasion that is needed, people decided that a common language that everyone globally would use is obliged.

One of these occasions, could be when someone is travelling abroad and needs help with staying in a foreign country, in which people speak a foreign language and have different culture. A global language is also helpful for economic migrants who usually do not speak the language of the country they are heading to and a widespread language helps them communicate and work until they are familiar with the foreign language. Furthermore, as the technology and especially the Internet has been expanded in almost all around the world, a global language provides opportunities to people from various countries exchange ideas and cultures.

On the other hand, it is claimed that as the use of English is spread, people do not improve their skills in their own language, using even in their everyday life english words. This way, languages except english are exposed to the threat of disappearing because of the non-use.

Overall, it is obvious that the advantages of the existence of a global language outbalance the disadvantages that result from this, which can be overcomed with the guidance and the suppert of every individual country.
