The graph shows the annual income of languages-related jobs in US dollars in five cities.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons where relevant.

You should write at least 150 words.

Writing task 1

The bar graph displays the annual income of interpreters, translators, and language teachers in US dollars in Mexico, Dubai, Paris, Munich, and Toronto.

It has been observed that people having language-related jobs in Toronto are the highest-paid, and people in Mexico are paid almost three to four times less than their counterparts. Being an interpreter seems lucrative as it earns an individual the most, while translators and language teachers fight for dominance amongst themselves.

Interpreters in Toronto make at least 80,000 USD annually, yet the ones in Mexico are struggling to reach even a quarter of that number and are stuck at 18,000 USD. 65,000 USD seems common amongst Paris, Munich, and Toronto translators. At the same time, a language teacher's highest salary is stuck at 65,000 USD as well.

To conclude, language-related occupations in Toronto have more income potential and in Mexico- not so much. Amongst professions, Interpreters are paid the most.

Task 2

You should spend about 40 minutes on this task.

Write about the following topic.

In some countries, online shopping is replacing shopping in stores. Do you think it is a positive or negative development?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

You should write at least 250 words.

With the advent of new technology, many people prefer to shop online instead of venturing to the store in search of what they want. I believe this development can be seen in a negative light.

While shopping online, we inadvertently hurt the in-sale stores, whether of a high-value brand or a small local shop at the corner of our street. This, in turn, affects the employability at those stores because if there are no sales, why will salesmen be there? It's easier to try on a garment or taste a free sample before sacrificing your credit card to the store owner and be ensured that you're making the right decision and are receiving a quality product, as this facility isn't available if you're shopping online. For example, I once received a pirated copy of a book I ordered online. So now, I prefer to buy books through genuine bookstores because there are a lot of scammers on the internet, even with gadgets.

While shopping on applications such as Amazon, Myntra, Ajio, Flipkart, etc., various items are conveniently found under one roof where you can compare and contrast and select the option that most meets your requirements. Often, we find deals and discounts that won't dent our savings, but then, while shopping online, we sometimes buy things we don't need and regret the decision because the item remains unexchangeable.

Negative opinions often outweigh the positive outcomes; the same has happened in this case. Online shopping affects in-store sales; there's less opportunity for us to test anything before we buy it, and the quality of the product isn't guaranteed the only positive being the convenience it offers to people to buy anything from the comfort of their homes in an instant.
