Task 1

The table below describes the number of employees and factories in England and Wales from 1851 to 1901.
Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons where relevant.
You should write at least 150 words.

The chart shows the number of factories and employment rate in each gender in the UK and Wales from 1851 to 1901.
A downward trend can easily be seen in the number of both male and female employees, despite the increased number in factories.
Overall, there was a significantly higher employment rate for men over the period, with males accounting for over 287100 workers in 1851. In the year 1861, there was a major fall in male employees, narrowing the difference between male and female employment rates, when there were only 30000 fewer male workers than female ones. In 1871, the total number of employees suddenly decreased by half, falling from 477100 to 291780 workers. On contrary, a large number of factories, 400 specifically were built between the period of 20 years, bringing the total amount to 622 factories.
In the next two decades, a gradual fall can be easily seen in both employment rates and factories before a significant decrease took place in 1901, reducing half of the male workers and one-quarter of female ones, ending up with an equal amount of employees, about 30000 each.

Nowadays, living in big cities may bring many problems to people's daily routine. In my opinion, I believe that by lowering the population in these cities and relocating citizens to the countryside, the government can make the issue less serve.
It is obvious that overpopulation is the greatest concern in large cities. This has brought many smaller issues to the urban population. Firstly, a high population comes with a high number of vehicles being used, especially during rush hours, causing traffic jams that can last for hours, wasting a considerable amount of precious time for people. The second problem that emerged from a densely populated city is the low availability of accommodation. This causes the fee of renting apartments or buying houses to rise uncontrollably, making many people move to smaller, uncomfortable places.
To cope with the problem, the most effective solution is to encourage people to move to rural areas. The population in big cities will be lowered using this method, while also solving the underpopulation problem in the countryside. This will help reduce the number of vehicles and the need for accommodation, which in return, will make traffic jams less server as well as more affordable rents. Moreover, by increasing the population in regional towns, the life quality of people there will also increase due to more job opportunities and businesses.
In conclusion, traffic jams and expensive accommodating are two main problems city people face every day. Although so, I think that the government can cope with this problem by balancing the population between urban and rural areas.
