Writing task 2

Cigarette smoking has long been proven by science to be hazardous to human's health. However, there are still tens and thousands of active smokers around the world. This essay aims to discuss the reasons for this and the potential methods we can use to reduce smoking.

Personally, I believe that one of the reasons for smoking in current society is money. There has been continuous discussion about illegalizing smoking. However, due to the profit generated by the tobacco industry, the government was unable to come to a full agreement with major corporations. For lawmakers and shareholders, the economy is more important than the health of the people. Secondly, the majority of smokers uses smoking to combat stress. The fast-paced society that people are living in is forcing people to find quick ways for stress relief. Due to these reasons, even though the complications of smoking are advertised everywhere, for example, lung cancer and neonatal deformities, people still choose to smoke.

How to tackle this issue? First, common citizens should work together to increase stress on the government and tobacco industry to prioritize people's health over money. Petitions and rallies should be conducted to show how serious we people are about eradicating smoking. Moreover, the health and fitness industry should work together to find ways to encourage people to find better alternatives to combat stress, for example, running, swimming, and meditating. Popular culture should also help instil positive lifestyle influences, such as the mindset of health over wealth, on people.

In conclusion, money and stress are some of the reasons why smokers are still rampant. People should work together to make smoking illegal and find alternative ways to combat stress.
