Dear Neighbours,

........

You should write at least 150 words.

Writing Task 1

Dear Neighbours,

I am writing this letter to complain about the disorderly way in which vehicles are parked in our common parking space. As you all might be aware, each of our flats has been allocated a dedicated parking space for vehicles, but still I find many residents parking their cars in someone else's area. Additionally, as per society instructions, the parking space is meant only for four wheelers. However, I see quite a few motocycles and scooters parked there.

I request everyone to park their vehicles in their dedicated parking space, and not use someone else's space. To avoid confusion, I suggest getting our flat numbers written, by the society administration, on the background of the parking wall, so that people do not park at the wrong spot. We can also get instructions written on the parking wall regarding nonentry of two wheelers.

It would be appropriate if we can arrange a meeting regarding this, to sort out any coonfusion that we might have. I suggest meeting this sunday at around 8 PM in the community hall. We can discuss this topic, as well as other pressing society matters.

Thank you for your consideration.

Yours sincerely,

Karan Batra

Writing Task 2

Cigarette smoking has taken countless peoples' lives, and has caused health problems for millions of others. It is a habit that is fairly common and addictive throughout the world, with many countries imposing strict taxes on its consumption and purchase. Some countries have altogether banned smoking in public places, such as parks, malls, markets, etc., and insist on hefty fines in case people are found breaking the rule. I agree with position taken by these countries, and feel that those who wish to smoke should do so away from the public places.

Smoking is injurious to health, and every step should be taken to prevent its consumption in public places. It causes harm not only to the person smoking, but also to others in their vicinity. For example, as per a survey conducted by the National Tobacco Control Board (NTCB) of India, every year secondhand smoke kills four times the number of people dying due to firsthand smoking. The imapct on health and the medical expenses are immeasurable. This shows that those who don't indulge in smoking face the maximum brunt, and hence every effort should be made by countries to make smoking illegal in public spaces. Another important reason is the impact of smoking on young kids. The New York Times states that depiction of casual smoking in movies, songs, etc. is the main influence for kids to take up smoking at an early age. Similarly, seeing people smoke in public places can also influence them to take up smoking, without realizing its negative effects on health.

This essay argued whether not allowing people to smoke in public places is a step in the right direction. I am strongly in favour of this, and believe that people should have to leave the public premises in order to light a smoke. This is to prevent the negative impact of smoking on health, as well as to prevent this from influencing kids to pick this wrong habit. It is the responsibilty of governments to think of the benefits of their citizens, and I feel that this is a step in the right direction.
