What are the causes of this? How can we reduce smoking in society?
Give reasons for your answer, and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

A lot of people die due to smoking related illnesses each year, and it is already a well known fact that it has a lot of negative effects to a person's body. But, many are still engaging this vice due to addiction and peer pressure, which can potentially be reduced by intensive education and the availability of programs to help people stop smoking.
One of the reasons why a person engage in smoking is peer pressure. During a person's younger years, it is very vital for them to be accepted by the society, most especially by their friends. Additionally, it is that feeling of belongingness that drives them to do something, such as smoking. For instance, if the circle the person belongs to uses cigarette, it would probably be of huge influence to them so that they would fit-in. Furthermore, it would then lead to addicition which would make it difficult for them to discontinue their vice even if they want to stop.
Meanwhile, there are a lot of ways we can control smoking in the community. One thing is by providing extensive education to the society, teaching the people the potential negative effects smoking can cause their bodies and making sure the people truly understands the risks. For instance, if a person knows and understands that smoking can lead to a lot of illnesses which can eventually cause death, discouraging them to try smoking in the first place. Another thing, the government should provide free programs or therapies that would help those people who wants to quit smoking. For example, establishing a 24 hour hotline for people who needs emotional support or counseling would be of great help for those who struggles to quit the habit.
In summary, smoking poses a great danger to humans. Furthermore, addiction to the said vice and peer pressure makes it a lot more difficult to quit. However, educating the people and providing government funded programs available to the public would definitely help to control smoking in the society.
