The growth and health of any country is determined by the fitness of it population. However, not everyone in a nation is internally driven to focus on their health. Considering this key factor, I strongly support the stance to provide public access to latest sports infrastructure.
There are numerous benefits in ensuring wider access to sports facilities in a country. The most significant one is an overall increase in health awareness. By removing the entry barrier, governments can utilise the fitness centres to run health camps, which can be a combination of physical activities, and nutritional advice. A result of these can lead to an increased focus on following a fitness routines by the wider population. Additionally, opening top-grade facilities to everyone can highly benefit anyone with age or sports related injuries. Health-care practioners can partner to use the training facilities available at the sports centres. Doctors or Physiotherpists can use them treat injuries without any additional setup required, saving them resources and time.
While the list of benefits go a long way, there are still some drawbacks that need particular attention. One key issue is the possible high upkeep and maintenance cost of the centres due equipment mishandling. Given that the facilities are considered specialised, only sports enthusiasts and experts are likely to have the pre-requisite knowledge in handling the available equipment. This could mean a larger cases of inappropriate equipment usage, which can prove to be an expensive repair or replacement activity for the authorities. Another problem that extends from equipment issues, is the higher risk of equipment related injuries, which pose a greater risk of life, and produce higher damages that the centre incharges might need to bear with.
Overall, having equitable access to world class sports facilities come with a great set of positives. The negatives in maintenance cost and injury risks can always be controlled by ensuring trained professionals are available at facilities for guidance as required by it is users.
