The graph below shows the number of overseas visitors to three different areas in a European country between 1987 and 2007

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Answer

The line graph illustrates how many people visited three different areas in one European country between 1987 and 2007.

The overall increase in the number of visitors from the coast was steady. It started at 40,000 in 1987 and reached a milestone of 80,000 in 2007. A similar trend could be observed in the number of visitors from the mountains. The figures for the mountains increased from 20,000 in 1987 to 35,000 in 2007.

The biggest real decrease was in the number of lake visitors. Their numbers plunged from almost 80,000 in 2002 to 50,000 in 2007. The difference in the number of visitors from the coast and the lakes was very noticeable, and the gap had widened over the period.

In general, visitor numbers experienced an increase in the second half of the period compared to the first half. While in the mountains, visitors had a drop in the second time.

Some countries achieve international sports by building specialised facilities to train top athletes, instead of providing sports facilities that everyone can use. Do you think this is positive or negative development?
