Writing Task 1

This graph shows the destination of foreign visitors to three particular places. As the legend indicates, the orange line is for the mountains, the blue line is for the coast, and the gray one shows the lake visitors. The scale of this chart is thousand visitors per year. Some information extracted from this chart will be discussed.

As seen in the chart, the coast is currently the most visited site by overseas visitors. And the least visited place is the mountains. The lakes were the basin of attraction once, in 2002 but the number has dropped since then.

The slope of the lines shows that the number of visitors to the coast and the mountains increased over time but a negative slope can be seen for the number of visitors to the lakes after 2002. Also, the number of visitors to the coast was reduced between 1987 and 1992.

Eventually, more valuable data can be mined from charts that are not mentioned in this writing. Statistics show that the currently best place to visit is the coast and then you can go mountain climbing in the mountains of the European countries!

Task 2

You should spend about 40 minutes on this task.

Some countries achieve international sports by building specialised facilities to train top athletes, instead of providing sports facilities that everyone can use. Do you think this is positive or negative development?

Discuss both views and give your opinion.

You should write at least 250 words.

One of the efficient ways to achieve international sports is by constructing the required equipment to train top athletes. This method has pros and cons that will be discussed further in the text.

Focusing only on the best athletes is sometimes good because you get better results with them. This action is called "Exploitation" in genetic algorithms that result in getting and focusing on the best-of-breed individuals. If specialized facilities become available to everyone this can cause a lack of concentration on the top athletes and not using all of their potential for achieving great results.

On the other hand, by providing sports equipment to everyone you can find promising athletes that can be trained for getting a great outcome. This action is called "Exploration" in genetic algorithms that result in finding better individuals that are not discovered!

Keeping the balance is always key to success. The best way to get great results is by maintaining a balance between some public facilities and some private ones. This method can be beneficial for both sides as professional athletes can use some specific equipment without public access so they can advance. Also, the public can use some of the equipment provided by the country. Needless to say, this requires balancing subsidies between facilities.

As a result, both assigning specialized equipment to pro-athletes and not assigning them, have their own advantages and disadvantages that we discussed in this writing. But in the end, maintaining a perfect balance among them can be helpful to get even better results.
