Some countries achieve international sports by building specialised facilities to train top athletes, instead of providing sports facilities that everyone can use. Do you think this is positive or negative development?
Discuss both views and give your opinion.
You should write at least 250 words.
In some nations, top tier facilities are designed specifically for top athletes and not for the use of common people. The purpose of building such facilities is to get better at global sports. However, I see these as a positive development. Some positive as well as negative points are discussed below along with the conclusion.
Concentration is very crucial for improvisation. Higher level athletes should get the necessary time as well as space for training purposes. There should not be any disturbance while practicing. Therefore, if more people are allowed to use these facilities then higher level athletes will face the disturbance. Moreover, world class facilities can help top athletes improve their performance significantly. Training with such facilities is very beneficial as they provide quality training to athletes. India is constantly creating world class facilities for athletes so that they can enhance their skills. As a result of this, number of medalists in olympics is gradully increasing for India. So, if great athletes use these facilities they can compete with global participants more effectively.
However, in long term it can prove costly as it can hamper the amount of future great athletes. If more and more athletes use such modern facilities they can get comfortable with them and produce extraordinary results. It will boost the performance of future athletes. For example, in India world class cricket facilities are available even at district levels so everyone can use them. It helps to discover younger talents as well as give them an edge over their opponents.
In the end it can be concluded that countries that are designing world class facilities specifically for top athletes rather than everyone is a positive development.
