Writing Task 1

The given bar charts compare the proportion of people living in different parts of Australia with their origin of birth in 1995 and 2010.

Overall, the majority of people living in cities were dormant against other arears, and the higher proportion of people were born outside the country in both years. Interestingly, fewer people lived in towns and remote areas comparing between 1995 and 2010.

Looking specifically to 1995, the highest percentage of people lived in cities with half of the overall Australia-born nations and 60% of people born elsewhere. Surprisingly, the lowest proportion of people lived in towns regardless of their origin.

15 years later, people still preferred to live in the cities with higher proportion comparing to 1995. Almost two third of people born in Australia and eight to ten people born outside the country lived in the cities, while less than 15% of people born in the country were living in towns and rural areas. Rich countries often give money to poorer countries, but it does not solve poverty. Therefore, developed countries should give other types of help to the poor countries rather than financial aid. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

You should write at least 250 words.

Every years, developed countries spend billions of dollars to improvise the living conditions of the third world countries, but to some extend those countries are still living under poverty. I strongly agree that those first world countries should spend more effort in other areas that are needed in priority before helping in financial terms.

By providing the financial assistance to the poor countries, their conditions cannot get better without using the money in the right ways. For example, most of the poor countries lack the human resources in allocating the budget in the prioritised areas due to the lack of formal education. Thus, the government may spend the fund to support the needy, while this will not improve their living in the long term.

However, if the developed countries provide the aid in term of human developement, this support will help the underdeveloped countries in the long term. For instance, the support can be in a form of scholarship to study in the prioritised areas that can help the poor countries to tackle their prime concerns. With the capable resources, those poor countries will know how to utlised the fund and tackle the long term problems.

Futhermore, the developed countries can send the specialised groups of people to help the poor countries in building their infrastructure needed to tackle the prioritised issues. If the underdeveloped countries have the potentials in agriculture, the developed world could send the agricultural specialists to help train the local poeple the efficient ways of doing farming. Moreover, the special delegation can build the required transportation link to the related trade centres for selling their produce. This way could help the poor countries in the longer term.

In conclusion, financial assistance cannot sustainably resolve the poverty without the capable human resources and required infrastucture. The developed countries need to focus more in developing the human capacity, and infrastructure for prioritised areas for the poor nations.
