Writing task 1

The picture given shows the proposal of the structure of a town with designated areas for housing, industry, parking, bus stand, recreation, roads and ring roads.

Overall, the town is divided into two concentric circles, where a connection of roads along with the town center creates the boundaries for the two circles. Majority of the allocated spaces within the circles is taken up by houses (16 in number), whereas the 4 recreational areas and 2 industrial areas take rest of the spaces.

The town centre houses 2 bus stands and 2 parking areas and has 4 roads branching out towards the north, west, south and south-east, connecting the central area to the ring road. The 4 sections divided by these 4 roads in the inner circle consist of 6 houses and 4 recreational spots.

The ring road then has 7 roads branching out towards the outside of the town. These 7 roads create 7 sections of the outer circle, which house 10 residential areas, 1 recreational area and 2 industrial areas.

Some people think that hosting international sports events may be beneficial for a country. Discuss both views.

You should write at least 250 words.

It is believed by some people that a country can benefit from conducting and hosting international sports events. However not everyone believes that to be the case, with some people arguing that such international events may not be beneficial for the nation.

Firstly, to host an international event it takes a large amount of investments from the host's side (majorly in terms of investments of money, time and energy). Often times these investments are in extravagant values, since a certain standard has to be met for such a large scale event. Taking into account an unavoidable level of corruption, such an expenditure could have been used for more effecient and useful ventures.

However, it could be argued that such a humungous expenditure is a one time investment, which provides its returns over years to come. The returns are then received in multiple ways - in terms of money, media exposure, a general increase in foreign relations and healthy competition.

Secondly, on the one hand, providing a venue for international events may hamper the local or national sports events that could have possibly used the venue instead. It may also turn out to be too expensive to host local events in such a big venue, which bring about a general decrease in local exposure, this not being beneficial. On the other hand, it could be said that hosting non-local and international events provide exposure to the local public of sports that only a minority of the national population may be interested in, thus potentially creating diverse interests in the audience. Proper time allocation would also allow for hosting local events on a larger scale along with international events.

To conclude, some believe that hosting international sports events is too large of a monetary expenditure, others argue that the returns of such expenditure is also plentiful. Where hosting international could result in reduced intra-national sports events, it could also be said that international events would provide for much richer and diverse interests to be developed and catered to, thus proving beenficial.
