In some countries people spend long hours at work. Why does this happen? Is it positive or negative development
You should write at least 250 words.
The term "overtime working" is no longer unfamiliar to community, especially, in the century of industrialization and technology breakthrough. There are numerous reasons to explain clearly why this phenomenon occurs and whether it brings about merits or demerits in human's life, according to individual mindset and awareness.
In terms of the reasons cause people to choose to spend much more time at work, there are two pivotal origins, the characteristics of their work and the high standard of living as time goes on. Firstly, it is obvious that in some particular jobs, people have no options but stay longer at work to fulfill their responsibilities. For instance, in medicine, doctors and nurses must take turn to be work around the clock under any urgent circumstances. In Economics, E-commerce has experienced a dramatic increase recently, as a result, transaction activities between buyers and sellers exist all day long, therefore, there are understandable requirements for labors to adapt to its characteristics. Secondly, our living standard is unceasingly higher and higher, it costs an arm and leg in comparison with the past to afford, consequently, people become accidentally materialistic, and they prioritize earning a living as their first purpose in life.
While acknowledging the advantages that overtime working has, I am of the opinion that they are eclipsed by the disadvantages. It is absolutely undeniable that the more working time of labor force, the higher contribution to the gross product domestic, which has considerable impact on national economics. Nevertheless, taking into account the negative influences on society, there are more issues that have to be addressed. Losing balance between working and living is more and more popular, particularly, in young generation as they indulge in making money, then, neglect and forget the meaning of their life. Furthermore, on behalf of physical health, individual has biological clock, which operate and consolidate activity inside, when people keep doing conversely to its normal setting, their health is terribly deteriorated in a long-term period.
To sum up, there are many reasons to explain the situation of overtime working in some countries around the world, both from objective and subjective purposes. Albeit the overall benefits of this situation, I hold a belief that the disadvantages outweigh advantages in physical and mental aspects simultaneously.
