Many activities in the modern world involve the use of computers and it is no different in classroom teaching. This essay will consider the pros and cons of the introduction of computers and their programs for direct classroom teaching.
While the earlier teaching methods were mostly dependent on textbooks and journal references, the arrival of computerized teaching system has made it easier for the teachers to carry and maintain the notes and other resources for classroom teaching. Also the teachers find it easier to express their ideas clearly and extensively with the help of modern computer programs. These programs are indispensable for the professors in the field of enigineering and technology which involves many complicated problems. Nowadays many simulation based tests are conducted in the schools and colleges via advanced computer proctored test systems.
On contrary the use of computers for direct teaching is considered a major hindrance for the clasroom interaction between the student and teacher. It also affects the analysing and questioning ablilty of the students as all the study materials are provided to them beforehand. This practice curbs the curiosity of the student to learn new concepts willingly and makes them accustomed to a mechanical way of learning.
In my opinion, the computerized teaching methods have been a boon to the teachers in reducing their workload and decreasing the complexity of the exisiting problems. However over dependence on this may lead to the lack of creativity among the students. Hence the teachers must be encouraged to follow a more reasearch oriented and practical system of teaching with help of computers in order to achieve the best results for students.
