Writing task 1

The chart here shows the number of British citizens emigrating to other countries from 2004 through 2007.

2006 has seen the highest number of emigrations, with more than 50,000 people moving to Australia; a trend that has been going on before 2006 and also since. On the opposite end of that spectrum are the USA and New Zealand, with the United States seeing rates alternating between starting off higher and going down the next year. On the other hand, New Zealand sees a gradual dip in the same.

Spain seems to be the second most popular place for people to move to, with about 35,000 people during it's best year and less than 30,000 in its worst year in the given time period. While France did see a major improvement in immigration fro U.K in one year, by the end of 2007, numbers were well below what they were in 2004 at the beginning of this comparison.

Task 2

Studying the english language is not exclusive to english speaking countries. People learning english in countries that are not English-speaking are a little less confident about their english skills, but that is the only thing holding them back from learning the language a little better. More than anything else, it is important to increase their comfort level in using the language, like they would their native language.

While it is a good idea to learn a language in the place where it is most used, a big disadvantage is that it is less forgiving for a person that doesn't know the language very well. If a person who doesn't know, for example, a language like spanish, lives in Spain, it would be very difficult for him to run even the smallest of errands without some level of difficulty. Granted, this might make him show a little more interest in the language now that everything depends on it, but learning at least the basics in his home country would have made it easier for him to study the language with more confidence and a lot less tiredness. The same applies for non english speakers and non english speaking countries as well. It would be a lot more forgiving for people learning a new means of communication if they are able to learn in an environment where they are allowed to make mistakes and learn from those inevitable mistakes that any person would make when learning; it would mean that they are more likely to show greater interest in studying that language.

Studying english in an english-speaking nation is the best way to learn, but the best way to get comfortable with a language is undoubtedly learning it from the comfort of the home country.
