I strongly agree with the given statement that we need not be in an english speaking country to learn the language. Also the statement is right for every language and not just english. But the best way indeed to learn the language is to be in an environment where the medium of communcation is the same.

From personal experience, i learnt english during my schoollife. Eventhough my mothertongue is malayalam, it was compulsory in my school to always speak in english. Since we conversed in english during the school hours, it helped a lot in moulding my language. The same way people in various countries are learning english not only by having a designated teacher but also via books and movies. I believe that the key to learning a language lies in the intrest that the person has in it. However, learning from the textbook is definitely not the way to learn languages since the usage of it is what strengthens the power of language. This is where the importance of being in an english speaking country comes in. When we are surrounded by the language, we learn it subconsciuosly. The slang and the idioms comes to us naturally since we hear it everyday. Other than that, since the medium of communication is english, we are compelled to use it in our day-to-day lives. Hence the best way to learn english is obviously to study it in an english speaking country.

On the other hand, everyone is not fortunate to be in an english speaking country and it is not practical to travel to one just to learn the language. It is important for them to take an effort in speaking english and in these times of improved technology, finding a person of English origin to practise language is not hard. There are also a variety of online applications and sites available, which helps in teaching english for free as well as for a paid-fee. Reading english books in the free time and watching english movies, with and without subtitles, are some other ways we can improve our language.
