Writing Task 1

The given bar chart represents the various trends of demographics and population growth amongst 4 countries in the past i.e. years 1950 and 2002, as well as predicting the probable outcome by the year 2050. As we can see, India has shown an exponential growth over the years, with expectant population of almost 20% of the world population by 2050. Whereas China has begun to show a decline in its population by various efforts of population control by the government. Yet, China holds the highest proportion of the total population on earth. But the future trends predict India to soon hold that title over China, which would be unfortunate given the issues of poverty and unemployment that are prevalent in India. USA seems to have reached a stable population as the majority of couples are now choosing to either not have children or just limit to one. Similarly, Japan's efforts to limit its population growth will prospectively lead to a significant decline of its population to an amount negligible on the charts of proportion to the total population of the world. We can note that India requires to learn and implement strategies similar to Japan or China so as to prevent the undesirous rise of population in the future.

Task 2

You should spend about 40 minutes on this task.

The use of social media is replacing face-to-face interaction among many people in society. Do you think the advantages outweigh the disadvantages?

You should write at least 250 words.

Social media is indeed a two edged sword, wherein we are inevitably being sucked deeper into a toxic co-dependence with it, but the current climate of capitalisation and monetary gain via access to the world from your small screen is far too rewarding to not take advantage of. Hence, most of our generation is tightly in grips of the world of social media. I do agree that it is replacing face to face interaction amongst society but I prefer the ease of instant contact and reachability that the internet provides as opposed to having to set a physical meeting where everybody's time and distance are key factors in deciding the logistics of getting together. Also, in the current times, staying safe and sans covid is crucial to mass survival, which has isolated people physically, but this causality of loneliness has been overcome by a quick video call. Alot of people deal with social anxiety on the daily and using an internet service to talk to or meet people is a good way of desensitising oneself to new and uncomfortable experiences that arise with novel human interactions. Covid times have been hard on people with daily wages or low financial stability, so the internet also serves as a seamless source of income and trade of various kinds. People can learn new skills and be recognised for the same with just a click of a button. There are countless posibilities with this world wide web, in the true sense of those words, but I would conclude by saying that no level of intellectual stimulation via this internet produced simulation will ever suffice the need for physical human interaction, touch and face to face communication.
