[Arielle Imara G] Writing Practice Test 526533

Task 1

You should spend about 20 minutes on this task.

The diagrams below show the existing ground floor plan of a house and a proposed plan for some building work.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons where relevant.

You should write at least 150 words.

Writing task 1

The diagrams present two floor plans of a house; the first plan shows the existing ground floor layout and the second one a revised version of the former.

In the current floor plan, upon entering the front entrance, you are introduced right away to a hallway with stairs leading up to the second floor. This hall sits between the kitchen, which is in the room left of the hall, and the living room, which is at the right. There is also a storage under the stairs and two doors at the back of the room opposite to eachother leading to the kitchen and living room.

The second floor plan has some proposed changes to the first as an improvement to the efficiency of the original layout . The first suggestion was to remove the living room wall, leaving only the the kitchen wall intact and the hall gone. Then the two internal doors are placed together and moved to the left side of the front entrance as the new way to enter the kitchen. Next, the storage under the stairs disappears in favor of moving the stairs back so that it is flushed with the back wall. Lastly, furniture is added to the kitchen.

No other changes were suggested about the location of the kitchen, living room, the kitchen wall, and the two entrance doors of the house.

Overall, there are 4 changes to the inital plan: the removal of the wall of the living room, the storage under the stairs, the placement of the two internal doors and the addition of kitchen furniture. The kitchen, living room, and the left-most internal wall remained the same.

Task 2

You should spend about 40 minutes on this task.

Some people believe that teaching children at home is best for a child's development while others think that it is important for children to go to school.

Discuss the advantages of both methods and give your own opinion.

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

You should write at least 250 words.

Writing task 2

When it comes to children's education many people have different opinions on it. Mainly there are two beliefs that people have: the first being that homeschooling is the best in terms of a child's developtment, while the second being that public schooling is. In my opinion, public schooling is the better of the two and this essay will provide my reasonings for it.

First off, sending your children to school helps develop their social skills as they can interact with many people of different backgrounds and personalities that they may not have the opportunity to if it were not for school. For example, if the school has many international students and immigrants it can be an a way to open one's eye to the many kinds of cultures in the world and will help in developing empathy and understanding towards others. Children can also gain a sense of independence as they make decisions on their own without their parents around to couch and help them.

In the side of homeschooling, many bring up the fact that it can help build and strengthen the bond between parent and child as usually, with schooling at home, the parents are the ones educating their child using their own curriculum. Students are more willing to learn from someone they trust and respect and with parent and child already having a close relationship this comes naturally to them and they are able to learn faster.

Despite that, I still find that the benefits of public schooling outweigh those of homeschooling. Socializing and independence are a skill and value that is best learned at a young age where the mind is more malleable and receptive to learned experiences.
