Task 1

You should spend about 20 minutes on this task.

The diagrams below show the existing ground floor plan of a house and a proposed plan for some building work.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons where relevant.

You should write at least 150 words.

Writing task 1

These two diagrams describe the existing floor plan of a house and the proposed changes to that plan.

The most major changes can be seen in the hall, starting with the alignment and the shape of the stairwell. The existing one is a straight flight of stairs while the propsed version has a u-shape.

The wall separating the hall and the living room is set to be removed. This means that the hall will now be integrated into the living room, making it a much larger space.

The two doors on each side of the hall, leading to the kitchen and the living room, have been removed as the hall no longer exists. There is instead, going to be a two door entrace to the kitchen, which will be immidiately to the right of the entrance to the new living room.

The initial door to the kitchen has now been replaced with a wall. This is in continuation to the wall that already separates the hall and the kitchen.

The kitchen has been left unchanged for the most part. New kitchen furniture has been added to the u-shaped corner, which will be directly in front of the new two door entrance.

Task 2

Some people believe that teaching children at home is best for a child's development while others think that it is important for children to go to school.

Discuss the advantages of both methods and give your own opinion.

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

You should write at least 250 words.

Writing task 2

Education is an integral part of anyone's life while growing up, because it helps us grow into well informed adults who are equipped to deal with the world. This is precisely why choosing the medium of education is a very important decision that parents have to take for their children.

There are two ways in which people approach this problem.

The first one is home school, where the child is taught at home and hence the education can be supervised by the parents themselves. This is a great way for parents to ensure that their child is recieving and understanding all of the knowledge that he/she needs, while also getting the personal attention of the teachers. It is a less distracting way to study.

The second method is the more conventional one, where the child goes to the school institution everyday and is a part of a group of students who are also recieving the same education as him/her. This is a more widely accepted way, since it is familiar to most people. This method has quite a few advantages, academically as well as with extra-curriculars. Since you are surrounded by multiple people who are studying the same thing as you, there is a sense of competition and this helps the child push themselves to become better. Another advantage is that they can seek help from a peer regarding some academic problem that may be common to both of them. It is also beneficial for a child to form a social connection with people his/her age and going to school everyday is a very good way to do that.

In conclusion, I would like to give my opinion on the matter by saying that I prefer the latter medium. This is because even though parental supervision can be beneficial for a period of time, it cannot teach a child the social skills, emotional skills, extra-curricular activities and independence which, having a school life, can. Therefore I personally favor a traditional school system.
