Writing Task 1

The line graph shows the number of enquiries a tourism information office received over the course of six-months. The graph shows a distintive variation in the ways the office was contacted. From the graph, it can be deduced that the tourism office received enquiries through emails or letters, telephone calls and through people walking-in to the office.

In January, the office garnered a majority of the complaints through telephone calls as compared to the in-person complaints. While the in-person enquiries accounted for about 500 complaints in January, it has significantly increased to approximately 1900 enquiries in June. Interestingly, the number of enquiries through email have decreased from approximately 700 in January to less than 400 in May and June.

The enquiries that the office received through telephone calls decreased in February. The enquiries garnered in March and April were 1000 with the number of enquiries significantly rising to 1600 in June.

Based on the given statistics, it can be formulated that the office obtained the highest number of enquiries in June. Contrastingly, the office received the least enquiries in January.

Individuals can do nothing to improve the environment; only governments and large companies can make a difference.

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

You should write at least 250 words.

Governments and large enterprises play an important role in ameliorating the environment. Nevertheless, individuals also play an integral role in the betterment of an environment. I disagree with the mentioned statement as I believe that individuals have equal responsibilities as governments and large organisations in contributing to the environment.

While it is every individual being's responsibility to make an active effort in improving the environment, governments play the most important role in promoting the improvement of an environment. Governments should place stringent rules to protect and improve the environments. Environments can be improved through safeguarding forests and trees from deforestation. This in turn protects the wildlife from going extinct while also improving the environment. The government should also promote the use of public transport over private transport. The increased use of private transport such as cars can significantly contribute to pollution, thereby jeopardising the quality of the environment.

Large companies, in an endeavour to improve the environment, can reduce their use of large-scale machineries to reduce pollution. The companies can also practice reusing and recycling at their office premises. Introducing green initiatives to employees can help proliferate the quality of the environment.

An individual can make informed choices to amerliorate the environment. Individuals can plant more trees, follow government rules pertaining to the protection of environment. Furthermore, individuals can coerce their governments to set strict actions on those people and companies that damage the environment. Compelling the governement officials may lead to stricter environment laws enforced. In addition to that, switching off electrical appliances when not in use can help in improving the environment.

For the betterment of an environment, it is of paramount importance that governments, large companies as well as individuals make informed choices and take care of the environment. Environments can only be improved when governments, large enterprises and individuals come together collectively to make a difference.
