Writing task 1

The above chart illustrates the number of mobile phones sold internationally between the years 2009 and 2013.

Over the past few years, the definition of a 'phone' has changed from a tool to connect oneself to the outside world to a portable device that could simultaneously provide communication and environment. A new word 'smartphone' was then created.

Overall, Nokia and LG faced a downward trend in sales but Samsung, Apple and ZTE went up the rising slope.

Initially, Nokia was the sales topper at 425 units and Apple had the lowest sales at 25 units. However,in 2013, Nokia's sales plunged and roughly halved into 250 units. In contrast, Samsung and Apple steadily increased to 450 and 150 units respectively. Among the five mobile phone brands, ZTE sold the least phones, showing only a slight increase.

Similar to Nokia, sales of LG also declined— from 125 units in 2009 to 75 units in 2013.

Writing task 2

People have different views on change. Some dislike change and prefer doing the same things for the rest of their lives, Whereas others reckon that change is an essential element of life. In this essay, I will discuss both sides and state my view on change.

To start with, I think exploring new, unknown areas is a refreshing experience. Doing something you've never done before allows you to step out of your comfort zone. Moreover, this is also a way out of the monotonous and boring everyday life. For example, if someone is tired of a job he/ she is doing, he/she most certainly can quit the current job and find a job he/she truly has interest in.

This is also true for individuals with traumatic experiences, such as a breakup, cutting ties with a best friend, or the loss of a love one. When coping with trauma, new friends or a new environment that does not remind these individuals of their painful experiences can help them forget the past and move on.

In addition, change can let you become a better version of yourself.

On the other hand,Some people accept life as it is and avoid change at all costs. They think that we should be content of what we already have in life. Some also find it difficult to adapt to change. For instance, one of the main reasons of depression in adolescents is difficulty to adapt with change, such as entering secondary school and meeting new friends. Thus, exploring the new and unknown isn't everyone's cup of tea.

Different people have different opinions about change. Alas, I support change in all aspects and agree that change is an inseparable part of life.
