In some countries people spend long hours at work. Why does this happen? Is it positive or negative development

You should write at least 250 words.

The trend of longer working hours is becoming increasingly popular globally, hence some nations have incorparated it in work places. This is probably because of excess workload and fewer employees. From my perspective, the development has a drawback as it reduces output.

There are several reasons countries and companies have embraced long hours at jobs. Perhaps the most significant one, ironically, is a rise in workload. Most employees hire few people which make their task extremely demanding and required accomplishment before closing, thus leading to staying longer at offices. If countries are not shortstaff, the trend will definitely not be accepted. In the Middle East, for instance, where approximately 89 percent of workers are subjected to work more than twelve hours per day due to high cost of employing international job seekers. The longetivity at job places, therefore, is as a result of increase workload.

Some people, however, myself included believe that increasing office hours has a negative impacts .The major effect is low productivity and stress on employees. When people are forced to stay longer at work, they will be stress out and their ouput decreased,so such development does not only affect the company growth but also the workers performance .A research study on workers in Qatar, for example, shows that companies who work for eight hours or lesser had increased productivity and employees satisfication, while those that engaged in more than eight hours achieved lesser goals and unhappy people as well. Clearly, spending long hours at work has a few drawback on companies achievement and individuals as well.

In conclusion, although there are points behind this trend of long timing at work environment, its negative impact impede productivity .Therefore I believe that it should not be generally acceptable .
