Writing Task 1

The process of making carbonated drinks is a fairly simple process consisting of five major stages. These stages are performed sequentially and are namely, water cleaning; heating, evaporation and carbonation; mixing; filtering and filling; packaging.

In the water cleaning stage, raw water is filtered before entering a water softener. Chemicals are then applied to the water to complete the cleaning process. A pump is used to transport the water from the cleaning tank to the electrical heaters.

The water gets heated as the initial process of stage two, after which it flows through a cooling pipe into a container. Once cool in this container, carbon dioxide is added to the water, thus creating carbonated water.

Now that we have carbonated water, we then move to stage three which is the mixing stage. The carbonated water is transported to a mixing tank whereby a mixer is constantly mixing the water while colouring, syrup and flavour are added to the water.

Once mixing is complete, the water is then filtered once again as a part of stage four and bottles and cans are filled with the drink solution.

The final stage of this process is the packaging. The bottles and cans are packaged into boxes or containers and loaded into trucks which transport them to various supermarkets, thus concluding the process of making carbonated drinks.

Some people think that outdoor activities are more beneficial for children’s development than playing computer games. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

You should write at least 250 words.

A child's development is a crucial stage in their life where they learn fundamentals of life. In recent times children engage in computer games more often than before and this can bring about concern regarding thier development. Some argue that this increase in playing computer games is less beneficial than outdoor activities. This passage will dissect the pros and cons of each activity in an attempt to determine which activity is more beneficial.

With the advancement of technology over the years, the world has observed an advancement in the quality of computer games as well. Games are played on smarter devices, with better looking interfaces and more entertaining varieties. One of the major benefits of computer games are the educational computer games designed to ensure the child is learning something while having fun and playing games. This can positively affect the childs learning process as they learn outside of school structure and willingly too.

One disadvantage to computer games that one could point to is the addictive element with which most computer games are designed. When unmonitored, children spend too much time engaging in computer games when compared with the rest of their activities during their daily life. This is not beneficial to the child as it causes an imbalance between mental focused activities and physical focused activies such as playing outdoors.

Outdoor activities boost a childs growth in many different ways. By playing outdoors children learn social skills as they interact with different children. They also use they bodies more as they run around, jump etc. This strengthens their bodies over time and results in stronger, physically abled children.

Possible disadvantages to outdoor activities are the risk of permanent, serious injuries or vulnerabilites to crimes such as kidnapping. But these risks are mitigated by allowing kids to play in safe areas under supervision.

I agree mostly with the sentiment that outdoor activities are more beneficial for childrens development than playing computer games. I do not however believe that one activity should be abolished in favour of the other. Computer games can be a very useful tool in the development of a child. But the access to them must be controlled so that the child can engage in outdoor activities as well which have proven over time to be benefical physically and socially in a childs development.
