The pie charts below show the percentage of housing owned and rented in the UK in 1991 and 2007.

Summarize the information by describing the main features of the charts and making comparisons where appropriate.

Writing Task 1

The pie charts illustrate the proportion of owned and rented houses in the United Kingdom in two years 1991 and 2007. Generally speaking, the proportion of home owner increased the most, and the percentage of social renting decreased the most through more than 10 years.

In 1991, home owner consisted of more than 50% of houses owned and rented in the UK, this proportion had rocketed by approximately 20% to nearly 75% of houses in the UK after more than a decade. On the contrary situations, the proportion of social renting and scocial housing witnessed the sharp dropping down situations through 16 years. While social renting dropped down from about 25% in 1991 to about 15% of UK houses in 2007; scocial housing decreased by 10% after 16 years from about 15% in 1991. In another situation, private renting houses still be in a stable proportion, with approximately 17 to 20% of UK houses.

In some countries people spend long hours at work. Why does this happen? Is it positive or negative development

You should write at least 250 words.

In this day and age, more people in some countries work harder and spend more time working. Some people claims that this as positive development, others state that this situation as negative development, but negative development is considered the priority.

It is considered that many reasons led to this situations happens. Firstly, financial pressure is the clear indicator that many people spend more time working. The more developed in life, the more expensive in prices, leading to the more pressure in financial, and people need to work more to improve their income so as not to be blocked down. The second reason of people to spend more time working is promotion issue. If people work harder, with more time, their effort will soon be identified and their chances of promotion may happen. From that, their quality of life will be improved. The third reason of this situation is individual development. Their time used more in work, their effort will be improved, and in some circumstances their skills will be developed.

The situation of people spend long time working is negative development. First, it affected the work-life balance of employees. It is undeniable that the more time people spend to work, the less time people spend to their families and their own relaxation. From that, employees will not have effective time to other aspects of their lives. The second reason leading to negative development is that, the health of working people will constantly affected, with bad effect. People will no longer have time to take care of their health, from that the number of the diseases will increase. This leads to bad affect in their health, and their effect for work will decrease.

In conclusion, spending long hours at work is the undeniable need and demand of people. However, people should be balance between their working time, routine time and relaxation time so that their health will remain be good, and their effect for work will increase sustainably.
