Writing Task 1

The chart shows the number of magazines sold per person in five different countries; A, B, C, D, and E in 2003 and 2005, with projected sales for the year 2007.

In countries A and B, the sales decreased from 2003 to 2005 but in country A, the number of copies sold per person is slightly less as compared to country B and sales are expected to decrease further in both the countries in the byear 2007.

In country C, the sales chart follows the same pattern as in countries A and B with even lesser copies sold per person.

In country D, the sales follow the opposite pattern to that followed in the countries A, B, and C with almost 17 to 18 copies per person in 2003, and 20 copies sold per person in the year 2005. In 2007, this number is expected to increase to almost 24 copies sold per person.

At last in country E, sales are very less as compared to the other four countries. with an increasing pattern from years 2003 to 2005 but are expected to decrease again in year 2007.

Task 2

You should spend about 40 minutes on this task.

Some people think that too much money has been spent looking after and repairing old buildings, so we should knock down old buildings and build modern ones instead. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

You should write at least 250 words.

With an increase in the money spent on repairing and restoration of the old buildings, some people think that old buildings should be repaired and some people think that new buildings should be made after knocking down the old buildings. I agree with both the groups.

To back my stance, let me tell you the pros and cons of both the methods. In my view knocking down the old buildings having no historical background and building the new modern ones is better because modern buildings have a lot of advantages as they offer better safety measures for the inhabitants such as built in fire detection, and fire fighting systems, outstanding surveillance systems, shock absorbing systems. etc.

They also offer better technological facilities such as central heating and cooling systems, smart lighting systems and IoT based systems which can be controlled remotely. etc. So, in my view, if the building has no historical background such as an old office building, it should be knocked down and a modern building should be built keeping in mind the above advantages.

On the other hand, in my view, the historical buildings should not be taken down and should be preserved because they depict the culture and civilisation of some era or area and also generate huge revenues due to the tourist attraction to such places.

For example, in Pakistan, there are numerous buildings which depict the Mughal culture such as Sheesh Mahal, Shalimar Gardens, Badshahi Mosque, etc. which generate millions of dollars as revenue from the tourists. So, it is better to repair and preserve them instead of knocking them down.
