While many people go to university for academic study, more people should be encouraged to do vocational training because there is a lack of qualified workers such as electricians and plumbers. Do you agree or disagree?

You should write at least 250 words.

Nowadays students target universities for academic studies but at the same time, not enough focus is given towards training for other professions such as plumbing, carpentering, etc. Even if academic study is important it should not undermine the importance of knowledge for the said professions.

Before we discuss the importance of vocational training let's discuss why academic studies are preferred over vocational training. In today's world, everyone's achievement is determined by the kind of lifestyle they have or how much they earn. Academic studies are crucial in getting most of the high paying jobs. Also, the impression of an academic study is far superior compared to that of any vocational training.

Conversely, no matter how paying jobs you have or no matter what lifestyle you have, there are a few issues that can not be resolved by yourself such as a leaking fitting or burnt wire. These issues are not insignificant in number and occur to everyone. To overcome these problems, a qualified worker is required who can resolve these issues for us. A lot of people are capable of doing basic repairs but a novice plumber or an electrition will do more harm than good and it can have various consequences that can be life threatening in some cases. Therefore, it is imperative that equal importance should be provided to vocational training so that we have adequately qualified workers that can resolve that issues for us. Also, if there is a lack of qualified workers, it also decreases competition leading to an increase in service costs even for minor fixes.

In conclusion, people should be encouraged to go for vocational training to make sure there is not a shortage of qualified workers that can help with the task a normal person cannot either perform or cannot perform effectively. Alongside training, qualified workers deserve equal respect to once that have done academic studies.
