Writing Task 1

The flow chart here exhibits the adverse effects of deforestation. It is seen that the consequences are split into four forms.

The chart first commences the clear cutting of forests. The heavy logging equipment firstly compresses the soil. Due to this the soil becomes hard and 'baked' which makes it difficult for the rain water to seep in and in turn causes flooding and affects vast regions nearby. Another consequence illustrated here due to deforestation, is that ample roots hold the top layer of soil and hence cause erosion. Thirdly, there is an amplified risk of fire and burning which can be a result of either deliberate or accidental actions. This further leads to destruction of waste wood from logging and the essential micro-organisms feeding on these wastes are lost. Another significant consequence is that some plants return less moisture to air. This causes mitigated precipitation and increased chances of drought. Due to this imbalance, increased soil erosion and higher chances of draught, various pioneer species crawl in and degrade the vegetation. On a bigger picture, this leads to loss of biodiversity.
