Writing Task 1

The map above illustrates how did the overlay of the first floor of a building change over 3 periods: from 1958 to 1984, from 1985 to 2000 and from 2001 to the present day.

Overall, the floor maintained a hallway across the entrance with two sides used as rooms and spaces for various purposes.

In the 6 six-year-period from 1958 to 1984, the floor was used as a office with a reception area, a manager office and a kitchen separated in order to the right side of the hall, with a toilet across the reception area, an assistant's office and a secretary office across the manager's and a meeting room opposite to the kitechen.

The office was changed into an apartment in1985 and up to 2000. Only the kitchen remained, while two joint bedrooms occupy the rest of the right side, and on the left the toilet was exteneded into the secretery's office as a bathroom and shower, and separately, the meeting room was extended into assistant's office as a living room.

In 2001, this apartment was turned into a flower shop, the rooms on the left were further compressed into a play area near the entrance and gift cards on the other corner, with lots of flowers in the middle. On the right side, the bedroom was cleared to make space for flowers, while the other one is now an office, and the kitchen, however, remained.

Many people no longer read newspapers or watch TV news programmes. Instead they get news about the world from the Internet. Is this a positive or negative development?

You should write at least 250 words.

Catching up on the news and getting up to date on world-events by reading newspapers or watching news broadcasts, is very normal. However, many people prefer viewing websites on the internet, which, in my opinion, is paramount for having a clear world-view without any biases.

In order to survive, people have to be well-aware of their environment and what is happening in the world around them. So, to be on top of things, however, they had to sacrifice a great amount of time to listen to various sources of news, while being vulnerable to misinformation and useless information coming into their typical news feeds, such as on a newspaper, or broadcasts over radio or televesion channels. Unfortunately, however, they had no means to verify such information and prove its credibility, making the majority viewers susceptible to being lured into believing the information at face-value, especially if they were not in the mood to look for evidence to back such information.

With the advent of information technology people began discovering the internet with its vast network of computers. The whole world was connected and people experiencing any event around the globe could easily share it directly, and hence, the viewer is able to verify the information by using search engines to access multiple resources freely.

Thus, although it's much easier for people to learn about current events from typical sources, it's also easy for them to fall victim to the manipulation by the institutions behind those sources. Nonetheless, this trap can be easily escaped if they seek this information by searching the internet for credible resources.
