Writing Task 1

The bar graph illustrates the distribution of Australian residents in urban and rural areas between 1995 and 2010. Generally, major cities remain a popular choice for settling while there is a noted decrease in the number of people residing in rural areas.

Urban areas remain the top choice among Australian citizens and immigrants both in 1995 and 2010. A significant increase of 20 million people was noted among immigrants moving to the city in 2010, whereas the number of citizens transferring to the city only increased by 10 million in the same year.

In contrast, there has been a dramatic drop in rural migration. Back in 1995, the rural area was the second preferred area of residence among Australians. However, this proportion dropped significantly over the past 15 years by more than 50% among citizens and immigrants. A fair decrease has also been observed among those residing in the town area. The population of Australian citizens dropped by 50% in 2010, whereas there was only a 20% decrease among immigrants.

In conclusion, the urban area remains to be heavily populated by both Australian citizens and immigrants. On the other hand, a significant decrease can be seen in the proportion of rural and town residents during the past 15 years.

Rich countries often give money to poorer countries, but it does not solve poverty. Therefore, developed countries should give other types of help to the poor countries rather than financial aid. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

You should write at least 250 words.

For years, poverty has been a long-standing global issue. Developed countries have played an important role in helping finance poorer, developing countries. However, the status of poverty has never changed. This grave reality simply reflects that there is more than financial aid that needs to be covered in order to alleviate this global issue; hence, first world countries should consider other ways aside from supporting poorer countries financially.

The presence of social inequality worldwide has greatly augmented poverty. Firstly, there is a big gap in government policies between developed and developing countries. Political infrastructure should be revised in such a way that equal opportunities for improvement are available and accessible to the rich and poor. Developed countries can give assistance to poorer countries in establishing guidelines that encourage equitability in their own society.

Secondly, socioeconomic infrastructure should be improved among developing countries. Financial aid coming from developed countries should not just concentrate on meeting immediate needs. It can also be utilized in creating, maintaining, and upgrading business platforms that can generate more job opportunities to more people. As the workforce increases, financial income becomes generated instead of being spent. Good socioeconomic policies have the potential power to change the direction of a poor country towards greater development. First world countries hold significant influence in creating and helping out poorer countries to achieve this status.

In conclusion, there are more ways to solve poverty other than financial aid. Developed countries have an important part to accomplish in helping out poorer countries achieve sustainable growth and development by improving existing gaps in political and socioeconomic infrastructures.
