Every candidate feels that the IELTS Reading test is tough and they have a very short amount of time to answer a large number of questions on very complicated texts. You need to master the reading skills to get a 7 Band Score or higher and have a range of strategies prepared in order to tackle it. Here are some tips:

Read a lot of Academic texts

Develop a habit of reading in your free time! The IELTS texts are “general academic texts”. This implies that they are obtained from sources such as textbooks and specialist magazines and journals. In case you are not familiar with reading such kind of texts in English then you need to start reading them so that you become familiar with the words and language also with the structure used when you meet them in the exam. The three typical sources for IELTS Reading texts are the National Geographic, the New Scientist and the Economist.

Focus

Your focus should be on the text first, then on the questions! Only if you have a good understanding of the text, you can answer the questions more precisely and effectively.

Be able to Categorize

IELTS exam writers select a range of specific type of texts. You need to learn to recognize the type of text you are reading. It will help you predict its structure and you will be able to understand it more quickly. There are four types of IELTS Reading texts – A) analytic texts that will discuss the reasons why something happened or make recommendations or explain a concept B) descriptive texts that describe a situation, explain how something is done or categorize something C) discursive texts in which different opinions are expressed about an issue and D) narrative texts that explain a chronological sequence of events.

Skimming

Develop the ability to skim. Skimming means to read quickly by skipping the unimportant words like prepositions and ignoring the difficult words that you don’t have to understand. You should do this to get a general idea about a text or a paragraph or while intensively searching for the answer of a question.

Scanning

You must learn to scan. Scanning is exactly what you do when you look for a price in advertising text or a name in a telephone book. While scanning you do not actually need to read the text but move your eyes quickly over it. You can scan either left to right or right to left, from top to bottom or bottom to top. You should do this to find out the location of answers in the texts looking out for easy to spot words like numbers, dates and words beginning with capital letters such as place names.

Structure

Learn to recognize paragraph structure. This involves spotting the relationship between main ideas and supporting ideas in a paragraph. Paragraphs are mostly descending i.e., they start with the main idea somewhere near the start and develop from there, however some, frequently first and the last paragraphs of the texts, are ascending – the main idea is found to be located towards the end. This can prove to be helpful particularly when matching the headings to the paragraphs.

Overview

Get the overview of a text before beginning with the questions. Do this by reading the title and the subtitle as well as focusing on the beginnings and ends of paragraphs. This will help you process the information in a text.

Similar phrases

Develop the skill to spot similar phrases. There are different ways of expressing the same thing, such as, “I like to ski” and “skiing is enjoyable”. Many questions, for example, YES NO NOT GIVEN questions and gap fills, test your ability to match up a parallel phrase in the task with its equivalent in the text.

Stop panicking

Don’t panic when you face an unknown or difficult word. IELTS texts are packed with highly specialized vocabulary and therefore you are advised to read relevant texts beforehand to prepare. Skip over difficult words which are unnecessary for your understanding of the text. For words you need to understand, practice trying to guess their meaning using the overall context of the text.

Time management

Manage time in the exam. Most of the IELTS candidates complain about running out of time in the third reading section. Each text should take you about 20 minutes (the examiner will bring it to your notice when 20 minutes have passed). Never spend too long on a single question – either guess the answer if you don’t know the answer exactly or skip the question and return to it later. Also, if you feel you are running out of time, tackle questions like gap fills before attempting “easy-to-guess” tasks.

Once you obtain your High School degree, you are one step closer to getting admission into the University. It is a simple process that you can follow by first downloading the Application Form from the University website. The completed Application form then has to be sent to Admin who will then take one of the following actions:
1. Accept your application and complete the enrollment process, which includes selecting your subjects, registering with the Dean and then you start University.
2. Give you a Provisional acceptance which indicates that you need to submit additional documentation for your Application to be considered. Once the additional documents are compiled, you are required to re-submit your application to Admin for further consideration.
3. Your application may be rejected, following which you can cancel the application altogether or take up an alternative course, for which you will go through the entire process of applying to the University.

There are different beliefs as to what stage of life a child has the most influence to their future. People are divided whether it is on pre-school or on teen age phase . This essay will discuss both views before we can come up a conclusion.

In pre-school years, a child is most influenced by their parents and its' main significant others. They spend most of their time with their caregivers that what ever they experienced might have a big impact to them when they grow up and that may mold them in to what they are when they become adults.

However, one cannot disregard the fact that during teen age years children begun to be attached to other people. In schools , they have their teachers and peers. Teachers will teach them different life lessons and knowledge needed for them to become responsible adults that can immerse to the society and contribute for the greater good.  Peers on the other hand, teaches children to become social and amicable which are also needed for one to immerse in the society .

With these , I would conclude that there is no definite answer as to what stage of life has more influenced to a child . As human beings ,we grow on different environments thus our experiences may differ from one another. We may experience some life changing phenomena when we were on our pre-school or teen age years but it is on us to decide whether to use that experience on our future endeavors as adults or keep that on our subconscious minds as mere memories of the past.

The diagram illustrates the steps high school graduates go through in order to enter university.

As it is presented ,the diagram indicates procedure which starts to getting a high school degree and ends in getting into a university by finalizing all essential documents.

Getting back to the details presented in the diagram, after getting a high school degree applicants need to download an application online. Once filled up it has to be sent to the admin. It is then the admins' task to review the application , as some can be rejected which will result to cancellation. However once rejected , an aspirant can opt to apply for an alternative course and go through the same process in order to be accepted to the chosen university.

Once the application is accepted, subsequently a student can then move forward to the completion of the enrollment procedure. They can then select subjects, register with the dean and then lastly enter the university.

The given illustration displays the methods and course of action on how high school students can get entry into the college.

Overall, it is clear that it is multi-phase plan which begins with obtaining the high school degree ending with the admission to the university by completing the application form , providing and compiling with the necessary documents. and sending to the concerned team for approval.

Firstly, the students should achieve a high school degree/certificate, Then they are required to download the Application form from the universities website, fill in all the necessary details and compile all the other remaining documents and send it to the admin for approval. Furthermore, the Admin then scrutinizes the documents of the students and comes to decision of whether the application is rejected , needs alternative course, provisional acceptance or is fit for enrollment.

Some of the applicants are granted a 2weeks provisional acceptance which means they need to provide more documentation for approval, and some others students are given rejection with alternative course plan and resubmit to the application back to the admin while few other students applications are cancelled.

Finally, the applicants accepted by the admin can within 2 weeks compete in for enrolment with choosing their subjects and register with Dean and obtain entry in the college.

The diagram provides information about the procedure for high school graduates to enroll in the University. The main process are sending application, waiting for the response, complying with the necessary requirements and then registration at Dean's office.

To start the process, students should download first a form from website and complete an application form. This application form will then be submitted to the administration office and will undergo evaluation process. After 2 weeks, results can be acceptance, provisional acceptance and rejection. For those who received provisional acceptance letter they will need to comply with the necessary documents and submit it back to to administrative office. Students who have rejection results can either cancel their application or consider to choose another course to apply again.

After complying with the needed requirements and be accepted, students may now proceed with the enrollment. They will choose the subjects they will be having and after deciding about the selected subjects, they will go to the Dean's office to register. Finally, they are officially enrolled and can enter into the University.

Experiences play a major role in shaping our well being and lifestyle, whether one has experiences prior to school or after starting school and going through teenage. People are often heard saying, experiences make or break you and I guess it makes sense. We have seen our parents, our elders always telling us about new things and making us educated about different subjects and cultures. The sad part is no one acknowledges the fact that a child also needs to go through something to really understand what it takes. No doubt education makes us more intelligent, but we also need to consider that experiences help us in becoming intellectual which is more preferable as compared to intelligent.

What impact experiences have in our life is unparalleled. Education alone will not be enough for us to live our lives. We need something more practical in life because not everything can be tackled using theoretical knowledge. Someone with a good blend of theoretical knowledge as well as practical experience understands a situation much better than anyone else.

Experiencing things before school is an important factor as it helps in developing the foundation of how our brain functions and how we think. As a child, if one commits a mistake, parents scold you and make you understand why it was a mistake. This is all done so that one doesn't repeat the same mistake. It helps in our brain understanding the fact that what they did was wrong. Our experiences at school are no different. Any experience, gives us an insight and lets us choose between what is right and what is wrong. If one can learn and inculcate that difference at such an early age, the problems, the stress, the situations become easy to handle.

Talking about corporate world and one would understand why experience is important. Hiring managers these days hardly look at education background of a person if they carry a good amount of experience. One can look past all the other things but experience shines. Not just because of experience, but also how that person is now what they are because of that experience.

To conclude, I would stand by the fact that experiences are an important part of our life. A life with no experiences is a life full of voids to fill. Experiences before school is more crucial for me. As they really build that strong foundation on which we base our facts and beliefs.
