  • 5 Answer: 8 a.m./8am

What time does the library open? ________

    • The keywords concerned Q5 are “what time/ the library/ open”.

    • For this question, the answer must be related to Time.

    • In the recording, the speaker said the library opens from 8 am to 10 pm. Since the answer must be NO MORE THAN THREE WORDS AND/ OR A NUMBER, the answer for Q5 must be 8 a.m.

  • 6 Answer: 7 p.m./7pm

What time does the cafeteria close at weekends? _________

    • From the question, we can assume that the answer for Q6 must be related to Time.

    • The keywords concerned this questions are “what time/ the cafeteria/ close/ at weekends”.

    • It is said in the audio that the cafeteria opens from 8 a.m until 7 p.m and it’s the schedule for every day.

    • Therefore the answer for Q6 is 7 p.m.

  • 7 Answer: 7 a.m./7am

When does the sports centre open? _______

    • From the question, we can assume that the answer for Q7 must be related to Time.

    • The keywords concerned this question are “when/ the sports centre/ open”.

    • The speaker said that “opens at 7 a.m”; therefore, the answer for Q7 must be 7 a.m.

  • 8 Answer: (during) daylight hours

    • The keywords concerned Q8 are “when/ the outdoor athletics field/ be used”.

    • It is implied from the recording that “outdoor athletics can only be used during daylight hours”. Since NO MORE THAN THREE WORDS AND/ OR A NUMBER” is allowed, the answer for Q8 must be “during daylight hours.

  • 9 Answer: (at around/ about) 3 p.m.

When will Saturday’s football trials probably end? _______

    • From the question, we can assume that the answer for Q9 must be related to Time.

    • The keywords concerned this question are “when/ Saturday’s football trials/ probably end”.

    • In the recording, the speaker said that they “should expect to be there until mid-afternoon, probably around three”. So, it is clear that the football trials will possibly end at 3 in the afternoon. Therefore the answer for Q9 must be 3 p.m

  • 10 Answer: after lunch

When will Neil go to watch the trials? __________

    • From the question, we can assume that the answer for this question must be related to Time.

    • The keywords concerned Q10 are “when/ Neil/ go to watch the trials”.

    • Some may get wrong with the answer “in the morning”, but the it was said that speaker has things to do in the morning. So it is incorrect.

SECTION 1

S: Hi Neil! How are you? You look a little puzzled.

L: Hi Simon! I am. You’re familiar with the campus, aren’t you? I can’t figure out where anything is.

S: Well, let me give you a hand, then. Which places do you need to know?

L: First, I need to know where the library is. I haven’t registered yet.

S: Alright. You know where the north gate is, don’t you?

L: Yes. It’s up that way – about 200 metres.

S: Sorry, Lisa. I’m afraid it’s in that direction and it’s about 500 metres away.

L: Well, that begins to explain why I can't find anything! So, the south gate…

S: North. Then it’s a little towards the west gate. You can’t miss it, because it’s really big and has a large sign on it.

L: OK. I’ll take your word for it. The second place I need to find is the sports centre.

S: That’s in the south-west part of the campus. It’s easy to see because there’s the outdoor athletics stadium nearby.

L: OK. Next, I need to know where Churchill Building is. That’s where I have my lectures tomorrow.

S: That’s back by the library. You know the building – the McDonald Building – where our department is?

L: Yes, that’s right by the east gate, isn’t it?

S: Right. Well, the Churchill Building is opposite, well, almost opposite that.

L: Not that small building directly opposite?

S: No, the larger one beside it.

L: Got it. OK. Last one. Where’s the cafeteria? I know it’s next to the bookshop.

S: And can you see the bookshop?

L: Well… hang on… It’s right there – here in the centre of the campus!

S: A great central location, if you ask me!

L: What time is the library open?

S: It’s open from 8:00 a.m until 10 p.m.

L: And the cafeteria?

S: 8 a.m. until 7 p.m.

L: Is that every day? Someone said that it isn’t open so long at the weekends.

S: No, it’s every day.

L: And the sports centre?

S: Now, if I remember rightly, that opens at 7 a.m. and closes at 9 p.m., but the outdoor athletics field can only be used during daylight hours since there’s no flood lighting.

L: You play sports, don’t you, Simon?

S: I do. I’ve signed up for the football team trials this coming weekend and I was on the athletics team at school.

L: When are the trials? I don’t play football, but I enjoy watching.

S: They’re on Saturday, starting at 10 a.m. The organisers said that we should expect to be there until mid-afternoon, probably until around three.

L: Well, I’ve got things to do in the morning, but I’ll come along after lunch. I hope you survive until then!

S: So do I! I think that in the morning, they’ll be aiming to sort out the people with ability from the no-hopers. Then, in the afternoon, they’ll be sorting out who’s the best.

L: OK. Well, good luck with that. I’ll see if Leslie wants to come along.

S: OK. See you Saturday.
