ExampleAnswer
The reason for dialing:complain
Full name: 1
Address:International House
Room number: 2
Register number: 3
Length of stay: 4
  • 1 Answer: Kevin Green
    • The keywords concerned in Q1 must be “full name”.

    • From the question, we can assume that the answer must be a name.

    • The agent asks Kevin to give her his full name. According to Kevin’s answer, we are aware that his full name isKevin Green”. Therefore, the answer for this question must be “Kevin Green”.

  • 2 Answer: 16C
    • The keywords concerned in Q2 must be “room number”.

    • From the question, we can assume that the answer must be a number or a number with a letter.

    • The agent proceeds to ask Kevin about his room number. Then, Kevin answers that his room number is 16C. Therefore, the answer for this question must be “16C”.

  • 3 Answer: KG 6037
    • The keywords concerned in Q3 must be “register number”.

    • From the question, we can assume that the answer can be numbers or numbers with letters.

    • The agent asks Kevin about his registration number. According to Kevin’s answer, we are aware that his registration number is KG6037. Therefore, the answer for this question must be “KG6037”.

Note: Register number”, as stated in the question, and “registration number”, as stated in the conversation, are obviously the same.

  • 4 Answer: two months/2 months
    • The keywords concerned in Q4 must be “length of stay”.

    • From the question, we can assume that the answer must be a period of time.

    • The agent asks Kevin about his length of stay, to which Kevin briefly answers as “two months”. Therefore, the answer for this question must be “two months”.

Note: The focus of this question is Kevin’s length of stay, which is clarified by the agent’s question. The length of lease has nothing to do with this question. Therefore, inattentive students may mistakenly believe that “one year” is the correct answer.

Questions 5-7

Complete the table below.

Write NO MORE THAN TWO WORDS for each answer.

ITEMPROBLEMS
tap in bathroom 5
6 Broken
TV set 7
  • 5 Answer: leaking
    • The keywords concerned in Q5 must be “problem” and “tap in bathroom”.

    • From the question, we can assume that the answer can be a phrase.

    • The agent wants to know what are the problems that Kevin’s having. It turns out that Kevin is currently dealing with a lot of problems. The first one is the bathroom tap. According to Kevin, his bathroom tap is leaking, and “leaking” is the problem that we are looking for. Thus, the answer for this question must be “leaking”.

  • 6 Answer: stove door
    • The keywords concerned in Q6 must be “item” and “broken”.

    • From the question, we can assume that the answer must be a noun or a noun phrase.

    • According to Kevin, we are aware that he’s having a problem with the stove in the kitchen. It turns out that the door of the stove is broken. As “broken” is our keyword, we can be assured that the item concerned here is the door of the stove, which can be briefly mentioned as stove door. Therefore, the answer for this question must be “stove door”.

  • 7 Answer: no sound
    • The keywords concerned in Q7 must be “TV set” and “problem”.

    • From the question, we can assume that the answer can be a phrase.

    • The agent proceeds to ask about other problems that Kevin’s having. It turns out that his TV set has no sound, and “no sound” is the problem that we are looking for. Therefore, the answer for this question must be “no sound”.

Questions 8-10

Complete the sentences below.

Write NO MORE THAN TWO WORDS for each answer.

Time of repairing is at 8

Telephone number of the repair man is 9

The repairing fee is 10

  • 8 Answer: 5 p.m/5:00 p.m
    • The keywords concerned in Q8 must be “time of repairing”.

    • From the question, we can assume that the answer must be a particular time.

    • As Kevin will return to the flat at about 4 o’clock, the agent flexibly arranges the repairman to come to his flat at 5 o’clock. Kevin completely agrees to this arrangement. Therefore, the answer for this question must be “5 p.m.”, as the repairman will come to Kevin’s flat on the afternoon.

Note: Even though Kevin returns to his flat at about 4 o’clock, the time of repairing, as stated by the agent, is actually 5 o’clock. Therefore, “4 p.m.” is an incorrect answer.

  • 9 Answer: 6543 3747
    • The keywords concerned in Q9 must be “repairman’s telephone number”.

    • From the question, we can assume that the answer must be numbers.

    • According to the agent, Kevin can contact the repairman if he wants to change the time of repairing. Consequently, his phone number is 6543 3747. Therefore, the answer for this question must be “6543 3747”.

  • 10 Answer: free
    • The keywords concerned in Q10 must be “repair fee”.

    • From the question, we can assume that the answer can be an amount of money.

    • According to the agent, we are aware that the price is at least 5 pounds, in most cases. However, as Kevin just uses two months, he doesn’t have to pay the fee. Therefore, the answer for this question must be “free”.

Note: The question concerns the actual price that Kevin has to pay, not the common price. Therefore, the only correct answer is “free”.

Agent: Well, what are the problems that you’ve been having?

Kevin: The first thing is the bathroom tap.

Agent: Let me take the notes. Tap in your bathroom. What’s wrong with it?

Kevin: It is leaking. I’d really hope to get that replaced right now.

Agent: OK. How about this afternoon?

Kevin: That’s great.

Agent: Anything else?

Kevin: The next one is the stove in the kitchen.

Agent: What’s the trouble with it?

Kevin: You know the stove is not a new one when we move into the flat.

Kevin: No. Just 3 items.

Agent: OK. We will get a repair man over to you tomorrow afternoon, are you available at that time?

Kevin: I will return to the flat at about 4 o'clock.

Kevin: Fine.

Agent: You can contact the repair man if your time will be changed.

Kevin: OK.

Agent: His phone number is 654 337 47.

Kevin: Right.

Agent: Do you have any questions?

Kevin: Let me think, yes, how about the repair fee?

Agent: Usually, the price is at least 5 pounds, but you just use two months, so we offer free repair.

Kevin: That’s so great. Thank you very much.

Agent: You are welcome. Goodbye.

Kevin: Goodbye.
