In Part 3 of the IELTS Speaking test, the examiner will ask you a series of more abstract and complex questions related to the topic discussed in Part 2. These questions are designed to assess your ability to express opinions, discuss abstract ideas, and provide extended responses. Here are some typical question patterns you might encounter in Part 3:

  1. Opinion-based Questions:

    • What are your views on...?

    • In your opinion, do you think...?

    • How do you feel about...?

Example: What are your views on the impact of social media on interpersonal relationships?

  1. Comparison and Contrast:

    • How is [topic A] different from [topic B]?

    • Can you compare [aspect A] and [aspect B] in terms of...?

    • What are the similarities and differences between...?

Example: How is traditional shopping different from online shopping in terms of convenience and variety of products?

  1. Hypothetical and Speculative Questions:

Remember, Part 3 questions are designed to assess your ability to express ideas and opinions coherently and provide well-reasoned responses. Practice answering these varied and challenging questions, and aim to communicate your thoughts clearly and fluently. Using a range of vocabulary and grammatical structures will also demonstrate your language proficiency to the examiner.
