The line graph represents the changes that occurred in the number of travellers from foreign countries going to 3 distinct regions of a European nation. The information was recorded between 1987 and 2007.
In general, while the number for mountains hardly increased during the period, the exact opposite happenned for the coast and the lakes, with a dramatic rocket in a long period and a slight drop at a different time.
In the first 5 years, the number of tourists visiting the lakes witnessed a significant uplift from 10 thousands to 25 thousands, whereas a negligible fall occurred on that of the coast. For the next 10 years, both quantities climbed with a considerable rate, with the lakes and the coast having approximately 75 thousand and 60 thousand visitors by 2002, respectively. In the final years, the tables are turned. The quantity for the lakes plunged rapidly, while the number for the coast climbed with the same rate as the past 10 years.
Meanwhile, the changes for the number of people visiting the mountains were more negligible. At the beginning, this quantity witnessed a tedious growth, 10 thousands people in 10 years, before levelling off for 5 years and kept on increasing with the same rate for the last 5 years.
Task 2

Some countries achieve international sports by building specialised facilities to train top athletes, instead of providing sports facilities that everyone can use. Do you think this is positive or negative development?
Discuss both views and give your opinion.
You should write at least 250 words.
Nowadays, as sports contests strengthen their position, the demand for higher achievements in competitions increases. Along with the need for citizens to improve their average health, it is therefore questioned whether to support contestants or the people to improve their physical health. While the investment in professional athletes provides considerable benefits, I believe the citizens' physical demand proves to be more crucial.
On the one hand, ranking positions in global sporting events are indeed very important. Higher ranks in the contest would further strengthen a nation's reputation and would very likely change the way other nations look at it. Excessive levels of profession are required to gain decent rankings, thus leading to governments purchasing specialised training pieces of machinery for athletes.
On the other hand, the benefits of providing sports facilities for citizens alike are not to be neglected. Improving the health of the people means improving the quality as well as the productivity of all workers. Every employee requires fine strength and stamina in order to accomplish their work more efficiently. As a result, by constructing sports centres or sporting courts, the government is indirectly pushing its people to improve their life quality and their work efficiency.
From my perspective, in consideration of the advantages provided by the two options, I would lean towards the investment of unspecialised sporting equipment and machinery for everyone. Despite the fact that training equipment specialised for professional athletes may bring several trophies and medals, they have an insignificant impact on the development of the nation in general, while the opposite can be observed from the other option.
In conclusion, it is suggested that governments pour the budget into purchasing and constructing training facilities for their people.
