There are controversial opinions about whether children should be given extra exercises after school. Although too much homework can be harmful to students in some ways, I would have to argue that they will benefit from doing further practices at home.
On the one hand, some individuals believe that homework may hinder children from social communication and entertainment. When pupils are given a large amount of exercises, they will have to spend more time working on it, thus narrowing the time for relaxing or entertaining and also causing more stress and pressure for students. In some Asian countries where homework is considered to be very important, children do not have a chance to participate in social activities. As a result, they lack of vital life skills which are more necessary in life.
On the other hand, it is an undeniable fact that assignments are essential for the academic study of youngsters these days. By doing homework, students can develop as well as reinforce their knowledge. It is a great way to avoid the lessons learnt at school being wiped out and to ensure that students have acquired all the things taught in class. Another benifit of doing homework is that it allows children to apply what they have learnt into the tasks they being given. Consequently, this will provide pupils deeper understanding of the subject. Working on homework also create a discipline for students. Therefore, their study will be more efficient.
In conclusion, while homework may cause high pressure for most children, I strongly convinced that further practice beside schools will result in greater level of discipline and will benefit children in various ways.
