Sample Answer 1 :

I'd like to talk about a friend's home that I often visit. Actually, it's my friend

Kim's flat, located in an old district in my hometown Qingdao. She moved out of her parents' home and rented that place from last year. We often hang out in her flat, like every weekend, I will get there to watch movies, having hotpot or BBQ with Kim and some other friends. Sometimes, to celebrate our birthdays, parties will be held in her flat as well.

As to what the flat looks likes… well, it's a one-bed flat with a big living room and small open kitchen. The was enough space to accommodate us to dine or party. But what I didn't like was the decoration, I mean it was a semi-furnished flat so there wasn't much furniture to make it a proper home.

Speaking of how I feel about the place... definitely, I would like to live there as well as it is a flat that is so close to the central area. To reach my working place, I only need to drive for about 20 mins for commuting and if I choose to take subways, it will probably take me about 15 mins, even less time to spend on traveling as I don't need to worry about traffic congestion. Besides, the view is nice at Kim's home, by which I mean, she lives on the 22nd floor and on the balcony, we can overlook the busy district and even the lake shore beyond that. The place is super sunny and spacious. Plus, the rent is very reasonable. So I will move to a place like that in the future.

Sample Answer 2 :

Okay I'd like to talk about my aunt's apartment, which is just a few blocks away from mine, like a 5-minute walk, so I go there at least once or twice a week. This is because she's a fantastic cook and I really enjoy eating at her place whenever possible. You know, she doesn't really mind cuz we're super close.

So what's her home like? Well, it's got 3 bedrooms, a study with a tatami, a balcony, a kitchen and two separate bathrooms. She and her family moved there only a few years ago so everything is pretty new, but I guess the really impressive thing is the decor. The minute you enter the home, you'll see the modern design with a rustic flair: lots of wooden furniture and hand-built decorations.

In my opinion, it's definitely well-furnished and well-decorated. I wouldn't say it's a perfect home, though, cuz cluttering is obviously an issue there. You see, the thing is, my aunt is like a shopaholic, and she's obsessed with online shopping. You can see lots of packages on the floor, some of which haven't even been opened yet. So the way I see it, decluttering is quite a pressing matter, but who am i to judge, right? Anyway, I just feel really good, really grateful that that I can sponge meals off my aunt, yeah, in her lovely but messy home.

Part 3

Question:What are the differences between houses or buildings in the city and in the countryside?

Sample Answer:

There's quite a difference. First of all, there're much more houses than apartment buildings in the countryside. Limited by land and space, residential areas in cities are overcrowded with people, vehicles, and tall buildings, whereas country houses are surrounded by farmlands, hills, and greenery.

Another big difference is that rural living offers much lower housing prices than urban living, and it gives people the sense of natural beauty and privacy.

Question:Do you prefer to live in the city or in the countryside?

解题思路:

此题为选择题,可以给出选择并拓展理由,再通过对比另一选择凸显选择的合理性。也可以给出模糊答案,从时间线角度给出不同答案和理由。参考答案为第二种。

Sample Answer:

I think currently I prefer urban life for the opportunities, its conveniences and all sorts of entertainment. But I aslo enjoy country life which's so much more comfortable and peaceful. When I'm much older, reaching retirement age, i'd probably consider buying a house in the rural area, where i could enjoy more space, stay away from urban pollution and noise, and spend my late life peacefully.

Question:What safety risks are there in residential buildings in cities?

解题思路:

此题为例举题,需要给出多种可能,可以考虑人为因素如起火,以及自然灾害如地震、海啸。

Sample Answer:

Oh there're plenty of safety hazards. The first one coming to my mind is fire safety. We must make sure our apartments have working smoke alarms.

Detectors might run out of power and stop working, which poses a threat to the residents. Apart from that, high-rise buildings may not be earthquake proof, so they might collapse when an earthquake strikes. This is extremely dangerous and life-threating. So I've just talked about fire, earthquake, and...what else? Perhaps tsunami is another natural disaster that threatens our living, especially if the buildings are located near the sea.

Question:Is it expensive to decorate a house or an apartment in the place where you live?

Sample Answer:

That depends on your budget/financial strength. I mean, like, a well-off family can hire a professional interior designer to tailor everything based on their own needs. This can be very pricey. However, for average families, decorating a home is not that expensive since there're lots of reasonably-priced decorations, furniture and appliances on the internet for them to pick, so they don't need to break the bank to design their homes.
