Part 1: Questions 1-10

Questions 1-7

Complete the notes below.

Write NO MORE THAN TWO WORDS AND/OR A NUMBER for each answer.

Visiting Gaudi's Exhibition

Example Answer

Day of visit: tomorrow

Laurel’s schedule:

• Class at college until: 1

Jason’s schedule:

• He says that his lecture finishes at: 2

• Gallery’s name: Tate

• Jason suggests they meet at the 3 at 12.30

• Laurel suggests they meet at the gallery's 4

Tickets prices:

• Jason does not get a concession so he will pay £ 5

• Laurel will pay £ 6 because she gets a concession.

• They will get there in Jason’s 7

  • 1 Answer: 11.30
    • The keywords concerned in Q1 must be “Laurel’s schedule”, “class at college” and “until”.

    • From the question, we can assume that the answer must be a time.

    • Laurel will have a class at college until 11.30. Therefore, she suggests going after 11.30. Therefore, the answer for Q1 must be “11.30”.

Note: Some students may mistakenly believe that “11.15” is the correct answer for Q1. At first, Laurel tells Jason that she will have class until 11.15. Later, she realizes that she made a mistake and quickly corrects herself by stating the right time, that is, 11.30. Therefore, “11.15” is a wrong answer.

  • 2 Answer: 12.15
    • The keywords concerned in Q2 must be “Jason’s schedule”, “lecture” and “finishes at”.

    • From the question, we can assume that the answer must be a time.

    • Jason informs Laurel that he will attend a lecture until 12.15. In other words, his lecture shall finish at 12.15. Therefore, the answer for Q2 must be “12.15”.

  • 3 Answer: tube
    • The keywords concerned in Q3 must be “Jason suggests”, “meet at” and “at 12.30”.

    • From the question, we can assume that the answer must be a noun or a noun phrase.

    • After Laurel finishes her class, she will catch the 11.55 tube. Laurel expects to arrive in central London after 25 minutes, which is 12.20. As a result, Jason suggests that they will meet at the tube by 12.30. Therefore, the answer for Q3 must be “tube”.

Note: Some students may mistakenly believe that “Tate” is the correct answer of Q3. As a matter of fact, Laurel is the one who suggests meeting at the Tate, not Jason. As Q3 concerns Jason’s suggestion, “Tate” is indeed a wrong answer.

  • 4 Answer: ticket office
    • The keywords concerned in Q4 must be “meet at” and “gallery’s”.

    • From the question, we can assume that the answer must be a noun or a noun phrase.

    • Even though Jason suggests meeting at the tube, Laurel believes that the ticket office of the Tate shall be an easier location. Therefore, the answer for Q4 must be “ticket office”.

  • 5 Answer: 15
    • The keywords concerned in Q5 must be “ticket price”, “not get concession” and “pay”.

    • From the question, we can assume that the answer must be a number.

    • From their conversation, we can imply that the amount of ticket concession is £5, the ticket’s normal price is £15 and the ticket’s discounted price is £10. As a result, Jason, who does not get a concession, has to pay £15. Therefore, the answer for Q5 must be “15”.

Note: Some students may mistakenly believe that “£5” is the correct answer of Q5. Laurel gets a concession and pays £10 for the ticket. Jason, who does not get a concession, says that he has to pay another £5. As a result, the normal price shall be £10 plus £5, equal to £15. On the other hand, it does not make any sense if the discounted price is £10 and the normal price is £5. Therefore, “£5” is an incorrect answer.

  • 6 Answer: 10
    • The keywords concerned in Q6 must be “ticket price”, “pay” and “gets a concession”.

    • From the question, we can assume that the answer must be a number.

    • From their conversation, we can imply that the amount of ticket concession is £5, the ticket’s normal price is £15 and the ticket’s discounted price is £10. As a result, Laurel, who gets a concession, has to pay £10. Therefore, the answer for Q6 must be “10”.

  • 7 Answer: van
    • The keywords concerned in Q7 must be “get there” and “in Jason’s”.

    • From the question, we can assume that the answer must be a noun or a noun phrase.

    • From their conversation, it is implied that Jason and Laurel will get to their destination via Jason’s van. Therefore, the answer for Q7 must be “van”.

First you have some time to look at questions 1 to 7

(Pause the recording for 30 seconds)

You will see that there is an example that has been done for you. On this occasion only, the conversation relating to this will be played first.

J = Jason L = Laurel

J: Hi Laurel, it's Jason. How are you? t Jason, so glad you called I'm fine. You must have got my message on your answerphone, I wanted to know if you were free tomorrow to go to the opening of a Gaudi exhibition.

J: Yes, I heard about it and thought of you straight away.

The answer is "tomorrow" so the time of the visit has been filled in for you. Now we shall begin. You should answer the questions as you listen because you will not bear the recording a second rime. Listen carefully and answer questions 1 to 7.

[REPEAT]

L: So, you're free tomorrow?

J: Yes. What time did you want to go?

L: Well, I have a class at college in the morning until 11.15. Wait, no, 11.30, so any time after then.

J: L have a lecture until about 12.15. Well, that works perfectly. Do you want me to come and pick you up?

L: No, you're much closer to the gallery than I am.

J: Which gallery is it?

L: The Tate, which is really good because I can get there pretty easily by tube.

J: Oh, right. Okay, where do you want to meet and at what time?

L: If I leave when I finish my class, I can probably make the 11.55 tube. That should get me into central London in about 25 minutes.

J: I can come to the tube to meet you by 12.30.

L: It's probably easier to meet at the Tate. The tube is pretty quiet at that time. Not the usual rush of people, so I should be ok, and they've installed a new device in the lift for wheelchairs, so I can get to the street without having to wait for long. Do you remember the old lift?

J: Yes, it was horrible. It made that loud clanking noise and the smell would make anyone pass out,

L: The new lift is quicker and the wheels of the chair lock into a safety system that allows you, and whoever else is in there with you, more room. It's a lot quicker.

J: That's a relief. Okay, so where are we meeting?

L: How about at the ticket office at the Tate?

J: If I get there first do you want me to buy you a ticket?

L: No, I get a concession and need to show my card.

J: Lucky you. How much do you pay?

L: About 10 pounds for major exhibitions on Tuesdays.

J: That's pretty good. The normal price is another 5. Hang on, did you say Tuesdays?

L Yes. Tomorrow's Tuesday.

J: Yes, yes. You're right. Why did I think it was Wednesday? Oh, because our lecture times have all changed this week and it's put me off. Okay, hang on. I have no class so I can come and pick you up.

L Can your car take my wheelchair?

J: Yes, I've got the van, so there's plenty of room in the back.

Before you hear the rest of the conversation, you have some time to look at questions 8 to 10.

(Pause the recording for 30 seconds)

Now listen and answer questions 8 to 10.

J: What's your address?

L: It's flat 6, 83 Alexandra Avenue, West Hampstead.

J: Let me write this down. Flat 6?

L Yes. That's 83 Alexandra Avenue.

J: Alexandra Avenue?

L: Yes, West Hampstead,

J: Got it, Okay, I'll be there at 12.30. Will you be home by then?

L: Sure will. Thanks, Jason. See you tomorrow.

J: Okay. Bye.

(Pause the recording for 30 seconds)

Across the globe, many people consider music as a mere amusement tool for individuals while other proponents contend that it plays a pivotal role in our society. However, I firmly assert that music has a significant even irreplaceable role in our daily lives since it has a medical soothing effect on our physical and mental health. However, there are some music that could be considered as only a noise, nothing else.
To begin with, many elderly generations tend to consider modern music as full of noise and anxiety since many latest music producers' masterpieces show fast rhythm and raps. Many adults believe that these types of music only can harm the young generation's mind but obtain nothing good from it. For example, the modern music industry releases much music with there are only a few words, not to mention the content of the text, full of sex exposure and seductive words. Our young generation could be led astray with these kinds of music.
By contrast, music could be extremely peaceful and soothing if it is made by real talented musicians, like, Mozart. According to the research conclusion about some of the classic music, Mozart’s masterpieces may trigger the alfa wave in the human brain and facilitate education and mental healthiness. Besides, some music are good additive for sports, like, elating emotions.

In conclusion, does music plays a great role in our lives depends on the essence of the music itself. I firmly believe that good music may provide us with positive feedback and encourage us to think positively and act efficiently.

The flowchart depicts the cheese-producing steps. Overall, there are involved a total of 8 steps in order to produce high-quality cheese. It begins with mixing raw milk with bacteria ending up with processed food delivery.
Firstly, it can be seen that the acidification process begins with mixing raw milk and bacteria in a container, facilitated by the addition of enzymes, resulting in the transformation of the liquid into solid curds. Subsequently, the obtained curds were meticulously sliced into small pieces poured into the pot, and heated the curds before they turned into a dried state.  Next, the following step is to pour out the liquefied form of curds into a bowl or other container for adding salts.
In the subsequent stage, the liquid form of curds was cooled down and poured into shape making machine in order to mold them into specific cubic shapes.  Moving forward, shaped curds were placed inside the shelf for a two-month fermentation process. Finally, collected fermented cheeses are packaged and then will be delivered to the retailer for sale.

Many people consider listening music as one of the best alternative to get relieved from stress and anxiety. Music plays a significant role on the society but some people treat music, just as a form of entertainment.

Firstly, music which reveals family relations and patriotism shows a significant impact on the society and the nation whereas music which completely acts as an antagonist (which affect human relations) may have negative impact on the children and the teen age groups across the world. Melody and romantical songs are always considered as better medicines to anyone who is suffering from depression and stress. Moreover, this type of songs surely relaxes us from various mental tensions and it also merely protects us from being attacked by mental problems but some individuals listen music while driving a motor bike on highways which may pose a dangerous threat to them.

On the other hand, music can also be treated as a simple way of entertainment to the public. Nowadays, some young ones are getting attracted to listening songs while driving a car or when performing physical exercises which shall improve their mood. Whereas, few people listen music to be happier and to improve their sleep quality whilst there are also few people who listen music when they feel bored only for entertainment purpose.

To conclude, in my opinion, music surely plays an important role on the society in both good and bad ways. I'd recommend every individual to consider music as a positive development only, such as to repair ones mood and also for the betterment of the society.

The given diagram illustrates the process of cheese making. This process involves various steps to follow in order to make good quality cheese.

Overall, the main source in cheese production is raw milk, which undergoes several steps after solidifying them to form cheese.

Firstly, raw milk is converted to curd by following a couple of steps such as acidification and adding tenzyme to milk. Then curd formed after this step is converted into solid curd cubes by following solidification process. Then, these cubes are cut into small pieces and are then heated and drained. Next, the liquid formed after heating small curd cubes is taken into a bowl.

Secondly, after heating and draining, salt is added to the liquid, which then undergoes shaping. After shaping, it goes through 2 months of fermentation process. As a result, after 2 months, cheese is formed which is then packed and supplied to various shops.

The diagram illustrates about the process involved in making cheese .
The pivotal point of the whole procedure is producing cheese mainly, these process consists of formation of curd, shaping the curd, fermentation and packaging.

The Raw milk which contains Bacteria in it is known as acidification, by adding tenzyme to this raw milk curd starts producing which is known as solidification then slice the curds into Bits subsequently heating and draining is done to remove the excess amount of water. After heating and draining add salt to the residue, after adding salt to the residue shaping machine provides the structure to the curds.

The visual representation depicts the intricate manufacturing process of cheese, involving a series of nine significant stages. These stages encompass a variety of methods, such as acidification, solidification, shaping, fermentation, and more, ultimately culminating in the production of the final cheese product ready for sale.

The initial step in this process is "acidification," where raw milk is combined with bacteria in a container to produce enzymes. The subsequent stage involves "solidification," during which the enzymes are transformed into curds. These curds are then meticulously cut into smaller pieces and subsequently subjected to heating over a flame. The resultant mixture is then carefully drained using specialized cooking equipment. Following the solidification phase, salt is introduced to the curd pieces to enhance flavor and preservation.

In the subsequent stage, these seasoned pieces undergo a "shaping" process, where specialized instruments are employed to give the cheese its desired form. Finally, the cheese is subjected to a critical phase, "fermentation," lasting approximately two months. During this period, the cheese matures, developing its distinctive flavor and texture. Upon reaching maturity, the cheese is carefully and meticulously packaged, ensuring it is well-protected for distribution to various retail outlets.

In conclusion, the manufacturing of cheese is a meticulous and multistep process involving acidification, solidification, shaping, and fermentation, among other essential stages. Each stage contributes to the development of the unique characteristics of the final cheese product, which is then thoughtfully packaged and sent to market for consumers to enjoy.

These opinions are acceptable to argue that music has its exclusive determination by the position.

To begin with music has a role more than only entertaining is a form of expressions in that occasionally related to cultural, religious, and identifying significance exclusively. Another word, each Independence Day surely sings a special national song which contains a meaningful role to remember the hero services, patriotism, and nationalism. Consequently, what statement emphasizes it more than just music, they comprehend that comprehensively. In addition to, music additionally brings a certain identification in various culture by virtue of the recognizing voice organization has been able to introduce what it is from. Besides, music is a set-off of voice phenomenon that can absorb the negative energy in body and mind especially those who are interested to disconnect from stress and abundance of life process. This presumption definitely generates undoubted pleasure thing as much like other instruments TV or reading book.

Having two essences of view respectively makes music establishing its meaning differently towards citizens’ segmentation. The assumption it is part of fun activity and the opposite one regards more than entertaining having more paramount impact. In my opinion, both are dynamic of condition and situation as a result all individual reserve the right for their position.
