Question 1:
Do you often send emails?
Sample Answer:
Not really. I mean, nowadays, if I want to notify someone, I'll just shoot a message because it takes way less time and I'm likely to get a much faster response than if I sent it via email. Right? Nobody constantly checks their email inboxes, but they will instantly get a push notification the moment you text them, therefore reaching back to you faster.
Question 2:
When would you send emails to others?
Sample Answer:
In more formal settings, I guess. Many professors still prefer us to reach out via their university email, so that's probably one of the only occasions where I would use email. Perhaps it's a way for the professors to communicate with their students efficiently because they'd be focusing on one platform to receive and reply, as well as to separate their personal life from work.
Question 3:
Is sending emails popular in China?
Sample Answer:
Not by any means. emailing is just too outdated. I mean, you have to key in a subject, your recipient's email address, literally a short essay, followed by your signature. Just imagine the amount of work you have to put into that! So, instead, WeChat is now the dominant way we use if we want to poke someone.
Question 4:
Do you think sending emails will be more or less popular in the future?
Sample Answer:
To be honest, I don't see a future with email in it. It can be and will be replaced by more effective means of communication. For chit-chat, we'll have communication apps like WeChat or WhatsApp and social media; For professional purposes, we have all sorts of enterprise communication platforms like DingTalk and Zoom, which can completely take the place of email and bring communication to the next level.
