Question 1:

Are there any street markets around your place?

Sample answer:

Yeah. In history street markets have always been an indispensable part in Chinese people's lives, and I'm not surprised to find one around my home. It is less than two kilometers away, on the same street as where I live. It is not just a place for daily supplies, but also a place for us to put down our phones and enjoy some leisure time.

Question 2:

Do you like going to the street markets?

Sample answer:

Unfortunately, no. I do know street markets have their advantages, such as cheaper prices, or good atmosphere for talking. But for me, they are sometimes dirty and messy. The smell of live fish and chicken is not pleasant either. So, I'm more a supermarket shopper.

Question 3:

Why would people go to street markets?

Sample answer:

I think price and habit are two prime reasons why people go there. Nowadays usually it is the senior members of a family that do daily shopping, and they are sometimes very price-sensitive. For example, my grandma would rather walk for 2 miles just to save 0.5 yuan on a Chinese cabbage. Also, decades of experience in street markets have become a habit for them. It is their stage.

Question 4:

Would you go to the street markets in other countries?

Sample answer:

Yeah, I would. For one thing, supermarket chains like Walmart are highly similar wherever we are, so they are definitely not within my travel itinerary abroad. For another, other countries have their local and unique objects on street markets, for example, I can find uh. Perfume with local pine tree smell in Greenville and probably a beautifully carved wooden sculpture of National Monument in Washington, D.C. They are full of fun!

Question 5:

Are things/products in the street markets expensive?

Sample answer:

Usually people who don't go to street markets would think they are cheaper, but that's not the truth. For some products, such as vegetables, meat and fish, they do have lower prices in street markets. But for others, like plants, or clothes, I think Taobao would be a better choice. A bouquet of rose can be 15 yuan cheaper on Taobao.

Question 6:

What are the differences between supermarkets and street markets?

Sample answer:

On top of my head, the environment. Supermarkets, like Walmart, are located near intersections of roads, where cars can easily get access. Inside the buildings, everything is clean and tidy. But street markets are the opposite, crowded in a neighbourhood, sometimes dirty and messy. Besides, the people who work there are quite different. Supermarkets have highly professional workers, while stall owners are more warm-hearted and talkative.
