[Hassaan B] Writing Practice Test 852215

Task 1

You should spend about 20 minutes on this task.

The diagram shows the production of hydroelectricity

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

You should write at least 150 words.

Writing Task 1

The hydro-electric dam consists of 3 main parts which are essential for any type of Hydro-electric dam. These parts are called Reservoir Section, Generator-Turbine Section, the Power Section. Firstly, we will discuss the Reservoir Section. In this section, a huge wall is built either on the side of a river or directly on the river which stops the water flow in general and allow little flow through the bottom tunnel. this tunnel is called Panstock. The purpose of this tunnel is to increase the water flow by decreasing water pressure. The Panstock is connected to the Reservoir by a nozzle section. The flow of water through the Panstock is controlled by the Intake Gate.

The next section is the area in which the Turbine and the Generator is connected with each other. The water flow from the pan stock is determined by the power of the Turbine fitted. This turbine rotates due to water pressure acting on its blades which is further connected to a shaft-rotor mechanism in the Generator; thus producing electricity. The water from the turbine is allowed to flow from a small tunnel into the river region again.

The final area concerns the power-delivery system. The electric power cables are attached to the Generator carrying electricity. These lines are connected to the local stations called 'Feeders' which distributes this electricity to the local areas through long distance power lines.

Task 2

You should spend about 40 minutes on this task.

Missions to explore space are hugely expensive, and there are problems on Earth which demand attention. The number of these missions needs to be reduced.

Do you agree or disagree?

Give reasons for your answer, and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

You should write at least 250 words.

Writing Task 2

The modern problems are poverty, technology, unemployment and stability. In the face of these problems, one begs the questions if the space flights and missions actually necessary for our current situation. maybe we should solve our more localized problems and when the solution is found for them, then we can start considering other areas of science and technology.

For start, most critics or should i rather say adversaries to the idea of space exploration propose that the human society is not ready for this technology and general space exploration since we cannot our basic problems of population, poverty and unemployment. The argument can be nullified by presenting facts about the space program. the space program has generated jobs in not just engineering but also in IT, education, biology, physics etc. Newer more advanced technologies are coming day by day just by observing the universe and from learning from out mistakes. The satellite program directly helps in observing the Universe as well as our very own Earth which has led to the development of tracking softwares, GPS and internet. It has influenced the development of new fuels and structural designs, helping in studies such as physics, biology, astronomy, data science, weather forecasting and many others; thereby increasing the overall jobs corcerning these fields. The technologies developed through the space program has inverdently influenced many other fields.

If the space travel is made possible and technologies such as space elevator is built for the moon and we can harvest the resources on the moon and from the other planets, the probems depicted by the critics as above mentioned will promptly disappear as people will have more land, more jobs, and poverty will be lessened from it. Maybe some time in the near future, scientists can develop technologies to actually establish societies on other planets for habitation.

Where people live, problems will emerge sooner or later. These problems have to be dealt with using new technologies, implementing more modern ideas. the problems should not be in anyway hinder the development of other technological fields of sciences. in the distant future, when we have already dealt with popolution, unemployment and poverty problems on earth maybe newer problems will emerge somewhere else. Therefore problems require innovative ideas without stopping the advancement of the space program.

Thus due to above mentioned points, I am a strong advocate for the Space program.
