Today, I would like to introduce a traditional festival in my country – the Spring Festival, also known as the Chinese New Year. This is the most important festival in China and it usually falls between late January and mid-February.

The Spring Festival is believed to have originated from the legend of the monster named Nian. According to the story, this monster would come out on the last night of the year to attack people and animals. However, the villagers found out that the monster was afraid of red color, fire, and loud noises, so they decorated their houses with red lanterns, set off fireworks, and banged drums and pots to scare away the monster. Since then, these customs have become an integral part of the tradition.

To celebrate the Spring Festival, Chinese people usually clean their houses thoroughly before the New Year's Eve, which symbolizes sweeping away bad luck and welcoming good fortune. They also buy new clothes, give red envelopes filled with money to children, and prepare a big feast with traditional dishes such as dumplings and fish. On the New Year's Day, families gather together to watch CCTV's Spring Festival Gala and set off fireworks to celebrate.

As for me, the Spring Festival is my favorite festival because it not only brings happiness and joy but also allows me to spend quality time with my family. Every year, I look forward to the reunion dinner with my parents, siblings, and grandparents, where we share stories, jokes and laugh together. It reminds me of the importance of family ties and traditions.
