Writing task 1

The bar chart illustrates statistical information on the population numbers in Japan from 1950 to 2055, in millions, whereas the table data demonstrates the number, in millions, and the population percentage aged 65 years and over in 1950, 2005, 2035 and 2055.

To begin with, the largest numbers in Japan's population was in 2005, whereas the least was in 1950. However, the population in Japan steadily increased from 1950 to 2005 before it gradually declined from 2005 to 2055. On the other hand, with regards to the table data, the biggest population number and percentage aged 65 years and above in Japan was in 2055, while the smallest was in 1950. Although the numbers and percentages do not represent the same unit of measurement, their numerical values are relatively similar in all four years.

In terms of Japan's population, in 2005, it peaked at 127.8 million, while it plunged at 84.1 million, in 1950. On the other hand, Japan's population rose steadily between 1950 to 2005 at a median number of approximately 100 million, and slowly decreased over the years beginning in 2005, down to 89.9 million in 2055. However, with regards to the table data, in 2055, the largest population number and percentage aged 65 years and over in Japan were 36.5 million and 41.0 % respectively, whereas in 1950, it only accounted for 4.1 million and 4.9% respectively. Despite the fact that the unit of measurements were in numbers and percentages, their numerical values were relatively similar at all four periods.

Write about the following topic.

Psychologists have known for many years that colour can affect how people feel. For this reason, attention should be given to colour schemes when decorating places such as offices and hospitals.

How true is this statement?

How far does colour influence people’s health and capacity for work?

You should write at least 250 words.

Writing task 2

In recent years, research institutions have been able to gain a deeper understanding in the psychological studies of wide spectrums of colour correlated to human emotions. With that said, profound research from psychologists shown that colour can impact people's emotions. Therefore, it is reasonable that the emphasis should be put on colour schemes when decorating hospitals and offices.

To begin with, I greatly endorse this statement to be true as there are a plethora of reasons why psychologists believe that colors can affect people's feelings. One of the most notable ones is, they believe colours trigger hormonal reactions within people. For instance, people's body can generate a good amount of endorphins when they see a land of greenery in a vast plantation field. Therefore, allowing them to feel happy and excited. Moreover, it is also true because it generates the sense of cultural beliefs in diverse ethnicities. An example worth mentioning is, during Chinese New Year, Chinese people wore red attires due to the fact that it is believed to bring them fortune and luck, whereas in the West, the colour black are worn during funerals as a formal dress code to pay respects to the deceased. Hence, giving people a feeling of comfort and respect to others.

On the contrary, colours greatly impact people's health and motivation to work for numerous reasons. One of the biggest ones is, it affects a person's mental and emotional wellbeing in hospitals. A study conducted in Harvard University, in 2016, mentioned that 80% of working adults who were exposed to the colour black in hospitals easily plunged into a state of anxiety and depression. Therefore, increasing the rate of homicides. In addition, during office hours, the colours white and blue, which was painted on the wall informs the brain to interact with coleagues strictly in a professional manner. For instance, Yales University in 2018, stated that 80% of people who observed these colours during work tend to adjust their behaviours and peform on their job at full capacity. Hence, creating a formal working environment.

In conclusion, the statement mentioned by psychologists that colours impact people's emotions is the absolute truth because it triggers a person's hormonal reaction and generates a sense of cultural beliefs among different people, whereas the colour influences people's health and capacity to work in hospitals and offices because it affects a person's mental and emotional wellbeing at hospitals, and creates a professional environment at work.
