The picture presents information about two alternative methods to build a house in order to be protected in lands which are probably to flood.
First, an option is to build a stopbank between the river and the house in question. To work correctely the stopbank must to have both a berm and a floodgate. However, to be an effective protection, it is relevant to build the stopbank with a freeboard over the 100-year flood level. A disadvantage of this method in that in days with an intense rain the house could have internal ponding. The reason of this is that the stopbank will stop the flow of the water to the river.
A second option, when a stopbank is not possible to use, is to build the house significantly over the ground level. In particular, it will be necessary to built the house over 100 year flood or ponding level and add a freeboard with 300 mm in order to be completely safe. The drawback of this method in that when the river reaches the 100-year flood level, it will be really difficult the get out of the house.

These days, in many places of the world, there is an open-dabate about how to improve the education systems. Some people argue that it is necessary to segregate students based on their academic skills, while others suggest that is better to educate all of them together. In this essay, I will present the main arguments for both groups and provide my personal opinion.
First, for many people it is a fact that students have different academic capabilities. Therefore, they argue that could be better divide students based on this criteria. According to this, for instance, the students with the best academic performance can be together in one classroom, whereas the students with poor academic skills will be allocated to other classroom. This division could represent an unique opportunity to implement personalised teaching. For example, in the group with minor academic abillity, teachers could focus on present the contents gradually, and be sure than at least the fundamental contents are well understood by these students. In the same way, the smart students will have the chance to develop even further their own interests, no matter the level of complexity of the subjects.
On the other side of the argument, some evidence suggest that there are several ways of intelligence, such as emotional intelligence, artistic abillities, among many others. Therefore, to divide students based only in acamedic performance could be a bad idea. In adddition, students, especially children younger adults, can learn about society issues in a more inclusive classroom. In other words, they could learn life-skills from people with a different culture, habits and lifetyles. In particular, they can get first-hand knowledge about social issues interacting with people with different economic backgrounds and circunstances.
In summary, people is concern about the best ways to improve education. Nervertheless, there are pros and cons in each point of view. To take a decision about this issue, stakeholders need to weigh up the better opportunities for a personalised education with loosing a diverse social environment in the classroom. In my opinion, in order to have a diverse and respectful world we need diverse realities interacting in the classroom.
