The diagram illustrates the creation of a household waste landfill, from the beginning to the very end.
Overall, the "life cycle" of a modern landfill is devided on three stages: construction, usage and closure. Each of them has a number of processes included.
First of all, to create a landfill for household waste, a man-made hole is required. Surface of this hole is firstly covered by the layer of clay and then lined with synthetic substance. Drinage pipes and drinage tank are placed on the bottom of the hole. After this stage is finished, landfill is ready for usage and is filled with different household waste. The final stage is called closure. During it, the clay lid is created to cover the whole upper surface of the hole. The creation of the landfill is now over, but the processes inside it still continue. For example, some gases from the waste appear and create their own layer.
