Some people think that hosting international sports events may be beneficial for a country. Discuss both views.
You should write at least 250 words.
Some individuals believe that it is advantageous for countries to host global sports tournaments. Others, however, think the opposite.
Apart from creating a sense of national pride, it is evident that international athletic events increase valuable tourism in a nation which can boost local economies. This would equate to substantial revenues as foreign visitors flock in and around the country. For instance, the influx of millions of tourists during the Olympic games held in first world nations, has recorded profits equivalent to billions of dollars. Furthermore, this activity similarly raises the host countries' global trade and stature as exemplified by invitations to prestigious global economic organizations. This leads to a possible consistent, if not permanent, openness to trading and bidding for future endeavors.
However, being a host country for international sporting events may also entail drawbacks, one of which is a financial drain for the city and the entire nation in general. It has been observed that Olympic games were consistently over-budgeted and each host city is solely responsible for these cost overruns, not to mention the outlays for repairs and maintenance after the said event.
