While the primary role of government is to ensure the welfare of the people especially the young ones. I strongly disagree with the idea that increase of overweight children is the sole accountability of the government. I believe that other factors such as parental supervision and how they influenced a child should be considered.
Parents played an integral part for the growth of their children wherein their main goal is to raise a healthy child. In order to do that, they provide children with the basic needs and on top of that list is children's daily food intake. Obesity happened when a child was fed with food that was beyond the required daily needs. For that reason, parents should supervised children's diet and make sure that a child's required calorie intake was met. Meals offered to children should be monitored properly by their parents and ensuring that a healthy set of foods was given to a child.
In addition to that, parents also influenced a child's eating habits. They tend to mimic actions of their parents since they perceived them as a role model. It is a child's nature to follow their parents activities as they trust them more than anybody else. For an example, if they saw their parents eating unhealthy foods, they may think that this practice is acceptable and opted to eat unhealthy foods as well. Thus, a child became obese in the long run and continued believing that unhealthy foods are desirable as to what they observed from their parents.
In conclusion, government is in charge of the welfare of the people including our children but it is a parent's authority to decide and take actions to what is beneficial for their child.
