I remember an occasion when I got lost while travelling abroad in Tokyo. It was my first time visiting Japan, so I was excited to explore the city. I set out in the morning and planned to visit several tourist destinations. However, I was clumsy and did not bring a map or a GPS device with me.

As I was wandering down the streets, I became disorientated and lost my sense of direction. The street signs were written in Japanese and I didn't understand anything. I asked for directions several times but no one could speak English, so I became more panicked and anxious.

Luckily, I found a friendly local who noticed my confusion and offered to help me. She spoke English fluently and explained to me how to get to the nearest subway station. She even showed me how to use the ticketing machine and which train to take to my destination. It was a great relief, and I felt grateful for her kind assistance.

Looking back, the experience was both terrifying and exhilarating. On the one hand, I was scared and anxious about not being able to find my way and potentially being stranded in a foreign country. On the other hand, I was empowered by the feeling of independence and adventure during the journey. After that experience, I learned to be more prepared and to take extra precautions when travelling in unfamiliar places.
